7 Daniel Lanteigne, F.Pl., B.B.A. Chair of the Board of Directors of the IQPF These are not the only issues of concern to the industry. Universal access to a financial planner and the emergence of cryptocurrencies are two good examples. Access to Financial Planning In an ideal world, financial literacy would start in school. People often call on our expertise because they have neither the time nor the skills to manage their personal finances. But where do their true interests lie? Some financial planners become something like a VP Finance for their clients. Can everyone afford to pay for or have access to a VP Finance? The answer, of course, is no. The fact is, the wealthiest people are generally the ones who benefit from financial planning. Last March, during the pre-budget consultations on the economic recovery, the IQPF took a stand on universal access to financial planners, recommending that the Québec Minister of Finance grant a tax credit to anyone who takes advantage of financial planning services. The idea has been launched! The community of financial planners benefits when everyone helps spread the word about the profession. Let's be united in this goal of recognition. The integrated, multi-disciplinary approach of financial planners is both unique and necessary. Let's come up with innovative ways to make our professional services more accessible. Should we consider establishing different grades of the profession? What are the repercussions of this kind of model? Understanding Cryptocurrencies If there is one issue that is affecting every field of financial planning expertise, it is the emergence of cryptocurrencies. The subject is riveting for many investors, but are they fully aware of the power of availability bias and the associated risks? Are clients really well informed? They certainly seem very curious to know the financial planner's stance on this highly complex topic that entails so many risks to manage. At the next IQPF Congress, delegates will be offered a window into the world of cryptocurrencies, as one of the four workshops focuses on precisely that. High-quality programming awaits all the delegates. Don't miss out! Financial planners share the desire to help improve the financial health of Quebecers and, by extension, facilitate the economic recovery. The IQPF Board and general management will continue to make every effort to raise the profile of our profession. Enjoy!
