Partnership with FP Canada
As of April 1, our long-time partner, the Financial Planning Standards Council
(FPSC) is called FP Canada. We reinforced our connection by signing
a new partnership agreement at the congress in September 2018. This
partnership creates a country-wide force to advance the profession. The
two organizations share the same goals, and the smartest way to achieve
common objectives is through cooperation.
In practical terms, the new partnership means that the IQPF—and,
by extension, the financial planners of Québec—will contribute to the
governance of FP Canada. The agreement establishes mechanisms to allow
the organizations to work together. We are going to try to harmonize the
standards that govern financial planning as much as possible. We hope that,
eventually, our combined efforts will lead to the professional recognition
of financial planning.
Welcome to our newest members
On May 4, we will welcome 341 new graduates (the class of 2018) at a
graduation ceremony in Montréal. This is great news for the future of
financial planning, because it is nearly 70 more new graduates than in 2017!
To our new recruits, I wish a warm welcome to a community that keeps on
growing and evolving, for the financial well-being of Quebecers.
End of the professional development cycle
That's right, the professional development cycle ends this November 30. By
then, you must have earned all your professional development units (PDUs).
I encourage you to plan ahead and avoid the end-of-cycle chaos! To figure
out where you stand with your PDUs, go to the IQPF website and check your
PDU record.
For PDUs in IPFP, you can take advantage of the congress to earn them, at
the Fairmont Tremblant on September 26 and 27. You can also choose remote
participation and watch the webcast. All the details are on our website.
And for PDUs in SC, you can earn them for free through La Cible. The October
2018 edition included a supplementary article with a questionnaire that allows
you to earn 3 PDUs in SC. The August 2019 edition will offer the same.
A huge thank-you
Finally, I want to mention Hélène Marquis's contribution to La Cible and
offer her our thanks. She has shared her tax expertise with us for 20 years!
Her departure means a new writer will be joining the magazine's staff: Serge
Lessard will take over the taxation column.
Read on!
