Jason Madden

Aboriginal Law
Jason Madden is Co-managing Partner of
Pape Salter Teillet and a citizen of the Métis
Nation. He specializes in Indigenous rights
law with an emphasis on litigation, consul-
tation and accommodation-related matters,
as well as the negotiation and implementa-
tion of modern-day treaties. Madden has
appeared in all Supreme Court of Canada
cases dealing with Métis legal issues over
the last 15 years. In 2016, he represented the
Métis National Council before the Supreme
Court of Canada in Daniels v. Canada,
which confirmed that the Métis are includ-
ed as Indians within section 91(24) of the
Constitution Act, 1867 and fall within Par-
liament's exclusive legislative authority.

Carruthers is one of the few commercial
lawyers with significant expertise advis-
ing on consultation and accommodation
requirements, as well as negotiating and
reaching a variety of project support agree-
ments with numerous First Nations and
other Indigenous groups. She has been in-
volved in several high-profile negotiations
and agreements across BC, including advis-
ing Vancouver Airport Authority regard-
ing the negotiation and completion of a
long-term relationship agreement for shared
benefit with Musqueam Indian Band.
Carruthers is involved with the Forum for
Women Entrepreneurs and mentoring ju-
nior women lawyers in the CBA Women
Lawyers Forum mentoring program.
Sarah D. Hansen

Environmental Law
A Partner in Miller omson's Commer-
cial Litigation group, Sarah Hansen has
expertise in environmental and Aboriginal
law. Her outstanding track record of success
relative to others in this field is at a notably
high level of complexity. She represents cli-
ents through environmental assessments
both federally and provincially and in con-
taminated sites litigation. Hansen led the
firm's team working with a First Nation in
opposing a proposed copper and gold mine.
