By way of background, West Fraser en- tered into the Stock Purchase Agreement on July 26, obtained early termination of the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act (HSR) waiting period in the middle of August, and com- pleted the acquisition on August 31. e transaction had a significant cross-border component and was completed in a re- markably short timeframe. Oil & Gas Oil & Gas PARAMOUNT RESOURCES ACQUIRES APACHE CANADA FOR $460M CLOSING DATE: AUGUST 16, 2017 On August 16, 2017, Paramount Resources Ltd. acquired all of the shares of Apache Canada Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of US public company Apache Corp., for ap- proximately $460 million. e acquisition added significant reserves, production and landholdings within Alberta and British Columbia to Paramount's portfolio. e transaction was a complex one due to the dispositions by Apache Canada of other as- sets not being acquired as part of the acqui- sition of Apache Canada by Paramount. Paramount Resources Ltd. is an inde- pendent, intermediate Canadian energy company. e company explores for, de- velops, produces and markets natural gas, crude oil and natural gas liquids in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories.
