2017 Projection Assumption Guidelines
At the end of July, we published the 2017 edition of the Projection
Assumption Guidelines, in collaboration with the Financial Planning
Standards Council (FPSC), along with an Addendum that provides the
sources that the guidelines are based on and calculations for inflation
and rates of return. A printer-friendly abridged version was also made
available. We urge you to use these guidelines to ensure that your
financial projections are realistic and bias-free.
We also took the opportunity to update the mobile Projection
Assumption Guidelines app (available in web and mobile versions). If
you are not already familiar with it, I encourage you to try it! It contains
the 2017 guidelines, of course, but also several calculators based on the
guidelines, and an LIF calculator. Go to app.iqpf.org for the web version
or search "IQPF" in Apple Store or Google Play for the mobile app.
Solution IQPF
The Projection Assumption Guidelines and the app can also be found
in the Solution IQPF. In the last edition of La Cible, I mentioned that
the Solution had been overhauled with a new interface that looks
more like the mobile versions and allows you to save notes and
favourites. The way the Table of Contents and the search function
are displayed has also changed.
The overhaul elicited a few suggestions for improvement that we will
consider, but in the meantime, we are offering a webinar to help users
get the most out of the Solution. There are three dates in October
and November. To sign up, look for the "Information for financial
planners" section at the bottom of the iqpf.org homepage.
