When I was elected chair of the IQPF Board of Directors last year,
I talked about the challenge of walking a mile in my predecessor's
high-heeled shoes. Luckily, it was a joke, because we have really
covered a lot of ground this past year! Although I would have
developed great calves…
I am beginning my second year as chair with lots of enthusiasm. Let's
take a look at the IQPF's recent accomplishments and the projects
we have lined up.
On the political side
An omnibus bill on the reform of the financial sector was planned
for the end of the parliamentary session, in mid-June. It has been in
the works since 2015, when Québec's Minister of Finance published
his "Report on the Application of the Act respecting the distribution
of financial products and services," but the scope of the bill was too
broad for it to be tabled on time. They are promising it for the first
days after the National Assembly resumes sitting in September.
The IQPF has been following this issue closely from the beginning. We
talked about it in La Cible in August 2015 and August 2016. We do not
believe that the changes in the law will affect the regulation of financial
planning, but we will continue to track the latest developments.
For the recognition of financial planners
Last May, we broadcast an ad on 98.5 FM, along with a Facebook
contest. In that ad, we advised listeners to check with a financial
planner before deciding what to do with their income tax refunds.
This campaign was the latest of a series of campaigns to promote
financial planners. From now to the end of 2017, we will step up our
communications and promotions activities and focus our efforts
so each action is part of a larger strategy. Keep an eye out for
educational content on planifiez.org. Stay tuned, especially with
Financial Planning Week on its way, in November!
In the same vein, in May and June we conducted a broad survey of
financial planners so we can demonstrate the added value of their
services. Having numbers to support the positive economic impact
