In Vancouver, Farris, Vaughan, Wills &
Murphy LLP welcomed Anna Laing (es-
tates and family law), Alexander Mitchell
(labour & employment), Nicholas Hooge
(litigation) and Ron Dueck (taxation) to
its partnership.
Cindy Cheuk (restructuring, insolvency
& bankruptcy) and Helen Park (business
law, immigration) were admitted to the
partnership of Dentons Canada LLP.
Clark Wilson LLP welcomed Pratibha
Sharma (corporate & commercial) and
Rong (Lauren) Liang (estate law) as part-
ners of the firm.
Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP admit-
ted Laura Cundari (commercial litigation),
Carrie Fleming (corporate & commercial,
project finance) and Soraya Jamal (taxa-
tion) to its partnership.
Jody Aldcorn (business law, financial ser-
vices) is now an equity partner at McCarthy
Tétrault LLP. She has significant experience
in the aviation industry.
Roland Hurst joined Farris as an associ-
ate, practising corporate law.

In Calgary, Blakes welcomed four new part-
ners: Chris Harris and Katie Slipp (ener-
gy), Olga Kary (corporate & securities) and
Ryan Zahara (restructuring & insolvency).
Rachel Howie (litigation & dispute reso-
lution), April Kosten (employment & la-
bour, immigration), Nathan Roberts (cor-
porate and M&A) and Doug Schweitzer
(restructuring, insolvency & bankruptcy)
joined the partnership of Dentons.
In Edmonton, Attorney General Kath-
leen Ganley, appointed 39 lawyers as
Queen's Counsel. Among them were: Dar-
lene Scott of Dentons Canada (see above),
Sean Smyth of McCarthy Tétrault (see
above), Gail Black of Miller omson LLP
and Valerie Prather of Bennett Jones LLP.
Sean Smyth was appointed
Queen's Counsel in January for
his "outstanding contribution
to the legal profession." Smyth
is McCarthy Tétrault's regional
managing partner of Alberta and
a veteran litigator who has ap-
peared before all levels of courts,
along with a variety of tribunals.
He recently acted for Enbridge
on its transfer of Canadian liquid
pipelines business and renew-
able energy assets to Enbridge
Income Fund. He is married
to fellow McCarthy Tétrault
litigator Kara Smyth.

Darlene Scott received the honor-
ary designation of Queen's Coun-
sel at the beginning of this year.
She is a partner in the Edmonton
office of Dentons, where she
served as chair of the Edmonton
financial services group for more
than 10 years. She acts for banks
and other financial institutions in
secure lending transactions as
well as for developers and other
members of the real estate indus-
try. Scott has been a bencher of
the Law Society of Alberta since
2014, and on its executive
committee since 2015.
Jim Morand, an experienced
practitioner of corporate taxation
law, moved his practice to Cas-
sels Brock in mid-February.
Prior to joining the firm, he was
a partner at McCarthy Tétrault.
He advises on capital markets,
structured financial products,
securitization, reorganizations,
M&A, REITs, investment manage-
ment and dispute resolution.
Recently, he led on the tax as-
pects for NorthWest Healthcare
Properties REIT in its combination
with NorthWest International
Healthcare Properties REIT.
