In Vancouver, the Honourable
Marshall Rothstein, QC, joined Hunter
Litigation Chambers as associate counsel
where he will focus mostly on arbitration
in complex commercial and public law
cases. He served on the Supreme Court of
Canada for nine years.
Clark Wilson LLP welcomed Jim
Schmidt and Scott Lamb to the firm as
partners. Schmidt's practice focuses on
commercial cases such as shareholders dis-
putes and negligence actions. Lamb focuses
on intellectual property, construction and
privacy law. He most recently practised
with Richards Buell Sutton LLP.
Argiro Kotsalis joined Vancouver Air-
port Authority as Vice President, Legal,
General Counsel & Corporate Secretary,
where she is responsible for its legal, gov-
ernance, compliance and insurance port-
folios. She was previously with Stikeman
Elliott LLP.
Lisa Frey and Daniel Shouldice joined
Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP (now
Gowling WLG) as associates. Frey, who
was previously with Lesperance Mendes
Lawyers, focuses on strata and real proper-
ty law. Shouldice, who was previously with
McMillan LLP, focuses on commercial dis-
putes and financial services litigation.
Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP
welcomed Matthew Ostrow as an associ-
ate practising litigation in the firm's family
law group.
In Victoria, the Attorney General for
British Columbia Suzanne Anton ap-
pointed 39 lawyers as Queen's Counsel.
Among them were Andrew Bury (loan
security enforcement) of Gowling WLG;
Tracey Cohen (commercial litigation) of
Fasken Martineau; Ludmila Herbst (com-
mercial and regulatory) of Farris; Gregory
Lewis (infrastructure) of Bull, Housser &

In Calgary, Steven Robertson and James
Swanson are now partners at Miller
omson LLP. Robertson practises com-
mercial litigation, corporate fraud recovery,
antifraud and anti-corruption as well as
health law. Swanson practises in the areas
of intellectual property, technology, new
media and entertainment as well as em-
ployment and civil litigation.
SASKATCHEWAN REGINA
In Regina, the Attorney General for Sas-
katchewan Gordon Wyant appointed 15
lawyers as Queen's Counsel. Among them
were Mark Guillet, General Counsel of
SaskEnergy; Katherine Hillman-Weir,
General Counsel of Information Services
Corporation; Erin Kleisinger of McDou-
gall Gauley LLP; Mary Neufeld of McK-
ercher LLP and Kenneth Ziegler of Rob-
ertson Stromberg.
MANITOBA WINNIPEG
In Winnipeg, Jeff Hirsch is now President
of the Federation of Law Societies of Can-
ada. He continues his administrative law
practice at ompson Dorfman Sweatman
LLP (TDS Law), where he focuses on pro-
fessional regulation, commercial litigation
and professional negligence.
Allan Fineblit, QC, of TDS Law re-
ceived the Richard J. Scott Award. e
award is given for excellence in promoting
the rule of law. Fineblit is the former head
of the Law Society of Manitoba.
Patricia Lane, a managing partner at
Taylor McCaffrey LLP, was awarded the
Cecilia Johnstone Award by the Canadian
Bar Association's Women Lawyers Forum.
ONTARIO TORONTO, OTTAWA
In Toronto, Monika Szabo joined PwC
Law LLP's immigration practice as a part-
ner. Szabo focuses on US immigration
law, specifically global workforce mobility,
M&A, compliance, permanent residency
and policy development. She was formerly
the leader of the US immigration practice
at KPMG Law LLP.
Aird & Berlis LLP welcomed Timothy
Lowman and Paula Bremner to its intel-
lectual property practice. Lowman, who
joins the firm as a partner, is an experienced
litigator. Bremner, who joins as an associ-
ate, has significant experience in pharma-
ceutical patent litigation.
Patricia Robinson opened her new law
firm, Robinsons Law on January 1. Rob-
inson, along with her team, will continue
advising private clients and their families
on their estate planning matters. She was
previously a partner at Goodmans LLP.
Janet Bobechko joined Norton Rose
Fulbright Canada LLP's business law
group as partner. She was previously Chair
of the environmental law group at Blaney
McMurtry LLP.
Lynn McGrade of Borden Ladner Ger-
vais LLP was elected Chair of the National
Society of Compliance Professionals for
2016. McGrade is a member of the firm's
securities and capital markets group.
In Ottawa, Governor General David
Johnston appointed four lawyers as Offi-
cers of the Order of Canada on December
30. Among them was Brian Levitt, the
Vice-chair of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt
LLP. Levitt, who is based in the firm's
Montréal office, is a highly regarded ad-
visor on corporate governance and M&A.
Jody Wilson-Raybould, Minister of Jus-
tice and Attorney General of Canada, ap-
pointed Margaret Bloodworth, Peter
Griffin, and Gil Rémillard to the Judicial
Compensation and Benefits Commission
on December 18.
