Tim Dickson is a partner in Farris's litigation group in Vancouver. He practices as gen-
eral counsel and acts in many areas of law, from complex commercial disputes to consti-
tutional test cases. Dickson is an experienced advocate who regularly appears in lengthy
trials and public inquiries and before appellate courts, including the Supreme Court of
Canada. Dickson's focus is on achieving results for his clients, whether through litigation
or through negotiation, mediation or arbitration. Dickson has acted in a wide range of
commercial disputes involving issues that include fiduciary duties, breach of contract,
shareholder oppression, fraudulent conveyance, partnerships, trusts, professional negli-
gence, nuisance, class actions, confidential information and real property. Among his cli-
ents have been the City of Vancouver, TransLink, Canada Line, the Vancouver Canucks,
the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee and the Anglican Church.
Karen Carteri's litigation practice focuses on shareholder, director and corporate control
disputes and remedies, major commercial real estate and property development disputes,
banking and financial services, and security enforcement litigation. Carteri has appeared
before all levels of court and before various administrative tribunals with extensive success.
She has written and presented on a wide range of litigation issues. Carteri advises the firm's
lawyers on matters of ethics, conflicts and insurance.
Acting for a variety of clients, including financial institutions, public and private corpo-
rations, groups of defrauded investors and retail brokerage clients, Michael Mysak has a
corporate/commercial litigation practice with an emphasis on fraud litigation, securities
litigation and shareholder disputes. He has significant cross-border experience, having
handled numerous files involving simultaneous action in Canada, the United States, Eu-
rope, Asia and the Middle East. As part of doing so, he has successfully traced, frozen and
recovered significant assets from both foreign and domestic defendants. Mysak has also
successfully pursued and defended various securities and shareholder disputes, including
claims of improper financial disclosure, oppression remedy claims and derivative actions.
Mysak appears before all levels of court in Alberta, the Federal Court of Canada, the Al-
berta Securities Commission and several administrative tribunals.
Gulu Punia is a Partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group in the firm's
Calgary office. Punia practices commercial and employment litigation and has rep-
resented clients at all levels of court in Alberta, including as lead counsel at trial before
the Court of Queen's Bench. Punia's commercial practice includes shareholder dis-
putes, oppression remedies, fraud claims, and claims for breach of contract. He has
acted for clients in obtaining extraordinary remedies such as attachment orders and
Anton Piller orders in cases involving fraud. Punia's employment practice involves rep-
resenting employers in regard to wrongful and constructive dismissal claims, non-com-
petition disputes including injunctions, breach of confidence claims, and complaints
before Human Rights Tribunals. Punia frequently volunteers, devoting time to legal
clinics for Calgary's homeless as well as volunteering for Camp Bonaventure, a camp
for children and youth with disabilities. Punia was called to the Alberta Bar in 2002.
