Scott Kugler is the leader of Gowlings' Class Action Group. He is trusted by his clients to
provide clear, understandable and practical advice. His practice focuses on complex com-
mercial matters, including securities & competition law class actions, shareholder disputes,
director/officer liability claims and other corporate litigation, oen involving the oppres-
sion remedy. Kugler has been successful in obtaining excellent outcomes for his clients
through litigation, negotiation, mediation, arbitration, or a combination of them depend-
ing on the nature of the dispute and his client's objectives.
David Gadsden is a partner in the Toronto office of Baker & McKenzie LLP. He is known
for his sound advice on commercial class actions, securities litigation and product liability
matters. He also represents clients on business crime investigations and fraud recovery. As
Chair of Baker & McKenzie's Canadian Class Actions Group, Gadsden draws on his ex-
tensive class action experience, having acted for defendants and plaintiffs in national and
global class actions involving allegations of product liability, securities fraud and price-fix-
ing. He is known for his pragmatic advice on fraud prevention and investigations, and has
extensive expertise in "Ponzi scheme" litigation and asset recapture, including cross-border
tracing, Anton Piller orders and Mareva injunctions. Gadsden has appeared at all levels of
court in Ontario and in complex commercial arbitrations. He has completed the Osgoode
Intensive Trial Advocacy Program, as well as the Intensive Advocacy Training Program
conducted by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. Gadsden has also lectured in the
Osgoode Hall Graduate Program.
Jeffrey Larry has a diverse business litigation practice, including corporate/commercial,
securities and bankruptcy and insolvency litigation. He brings a pragmatic and business-
like approach to the practice of law. Clients rely on his strategic and sensible advice and
value his ability to find and deliver practical and cost-efficient solutions to their business
issues. Larry has assisted clients in business and shareholder disputes, large and complex
corporate and commercial contract disputes, broker-negligence cases, individuals in ad-
ministrative proceedings at the Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada and the In-
vestment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada, reporting issuers, individuals and
other registrants at the Ontario Securities Commission. He appears regularly before the
Commercial List and has appeared before the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme
Court of Canada. Larry also appears before the Ontario Securities Commission, IIROC
and the MFDA. Larry was named one of Lexpert®'s "Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under
40" in 2014.
Shaun Laubman practices corporate-commercial litigation, including shareholder and
partnership disputes, securities litigation, franchise disputes and insolvency matters. He
regularly serves as trial and appellate counsel and has represented clients before all levels of
court in Ontario, as well as before administrative and arbitral tribunals. He is an executive
member of the Ontario Bar Association's Civil Litigation Section and was recently named
one of Lexpert®'s "Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40." He was valedictorian of his
class at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. He clerked for the justices of the Court
of Appeal for Ontario and worked for several years in New York at a major international
law firm.
