Senior partner of the firm, James Woods practices exclusively in litigation and arbitration
and has pleaded at all levels of the federal and provincial courts in Ontario and Québec,
including the Supreme Court of Canada. Member of the Faculty of Law and lecturer
in civil litigation at McGill University. Author of Cases and Materials on Civil Proce-
dure (Carswell Legal Publications, 1987) and numerous articles and papers, including
"Measuring the Results of Class Actions," IBA Conference on Class Actions, Rome, 2007.

Joseph R. Nuss joined Woods LLP as Senior Counsel in 2009 upon retiring from the
Québec Court of Appeal. Practice focuses on domestic and international arbitration
and mediation. Appointed Claims Officer in the restructuring and reorganization of
the AbitibiBowater companies. Before appointment to court, specialized in litigation,
appeared as counsel before SCC and other levels of court. Was counsel before several
Federal Commissions of Inquiry. Lectures on arbitration and mediation. At IBA Confer-
ence, delivered paper on "Public Policy invoked as a ground for contesting the enforcement
of an arbitral award or for seeking its annulment." One of authors of arbitration chapter
in LegisPratique: Code de procédure civile annoté. Member of Québec Bar, CBA, LCIA,
IBA, ICC Canada and ICDR panel of arbitrators. Named QC (1976). Fellow of ACTL

Henri Alvarez has over 25 years of experience in the field of international commercial
arbitration and dispute resolution. Since 1985, Alvarez has taught a course in this field
at the Faculty of Law at e University of British Columbia. He has acted as both an
arbitrator and as counsel in international and domestic commercial arbitrations involv-
ing investments, trade, franchising, licensing, distributorship, construction, forestry, oil
and gas, energy, banking, corporate and general commercial disputes. He has served as a
sole arbitrator, party-appointed arbitrator and Chairman in many international matters
and regularly conducts arbitrations in English, Spanish and French. Alvarez is one of the
most highly regarded practitioners worldwide, recognized by the International Who's
Who of Commercial Arbitration, Chambers Global, Chambers Latin America, the Inter-
national Who's Who of Arbitration Lawyers and e Lexpert®/American Lawyer Guide
to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada. He was called to the BC Bar in 1981 and was
appointed Queen's Counsel in 2008.
Counsel in BLG's International Trade and Arbitration Group. He has experience in
international commercial and investment treaty arbitration, as well as complex commer-
cial disputes. He has appeared as counsel in ICC, UNCITRAL, ICSID, SCC, SIAC,
BCICAC and ad hoc arbitration proceedings, and in the Appeal, Supreme, and Provin-
cial Courts of British Columbia. He holds an LLB from the University of Alberta and
was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2002. He also holds a BA and BEd, both from
the University of British Columbia, and is a non-practicing member of the roll of solici-
tors, England and Wales as of 2011. He is a member of the ICC Canada Arbitration
Committee, including as a listed arbitrator, ICCA, ITA, as an advisory board member
and the LCIA. He is, among other things, Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Peer
Review Rated, recognized as a "Future Star" in Benchmark Canada 2014 and 2015 –
