Henri Alvarez has over 25 years of experience in the field of international commercial arbitration and dispute resolution. Since 1985, Alvarez has taught a course in this field at the Faculty of Law at e University of British Columbia. He has acted as both an arbitrator and as counsel in international and domestic commercial arbitrations involv- ing investments, trade, franchising, licensing, distributorship, construction, forestry, oil and gas, energy, banking, corporate and general commercial disputes. He has served as a sole arbitrator, party-appointed arbitrator and Chairman in many international matters and regularly conducts arbitrations in English, Spanish and French. Alvarez is one of the most highly regarded practitioners worldwide, recognized by the International Who's Who of Commercial Arbitration, Chambers Global, Chambers Latin America, the Inter- national Who's Who of Arbitration Lawyers and e Lexpert®/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada. He was called to the BC Bar in 1981 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2008. Counsel in BLG's International Trade and Arbitration Group. He has experience in international commercial and investment treaty arbitration, as well as complex commer- cial disputes. He has appeared as counsel in ICC, UNCITRAL, ICSID, SCC, SIAC, BCICAC and ad hoc arbitration proceedings, and in the Appeal, Supreme, and Provin- cial Courts of British Columbia.
