Joel Nitikman is a partner in the Tax Group at Dentons, focused on resolving tax
disputes between taxpayers and federal and provincial tax authorities. He has acted as
counsel in numerous tax cases at all levels of court, both provincially and federally and
has settled many cases out of court at the pre-assessment or objection stage. He practices
corporate and individual business tax, focusing on off -shore tax planning, corporate
reorganizations and other business-related tax matters. He advises on GST and provincial
commodity taxes. He has been involved in provincial, federal and international income
and commodity tax planning, including cross-border tax planning for the entertainment
industry, off -shore trusts, Canada-US corporate reorganizations, Canadian investment
in the US, US investment in Canada and cross-border estate planning. Nitikman has had
extensive involvement with structuring and opening on public off erings of tax-related
securities. He writes and presents tax-related articles on international, federal and provin-
cial income tax, GST and retail sales tax issues.

Ed Kro is a partner who practices in the areas of tax controversy and litigation law
at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. Practice is exclusively dedicated to handling federal
and provincial tax disputes, including those related to transfer pricing. Appears before all
levels of court, including Supreme Court of Canada. Extensively published on taxation
issues. Sits on the Editorial Board of Tax Litigation and Canadian Tax Journal and
formerly for many years on the Rules Committee of the Tax Court of Canada. Recipient
of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants Award for Excellence in Income
Tax Practice and Education for his outstanding contribution to the profession and the
Canadian tax community. In 2012, Kro was the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth

Sandra Jack's tax practice emphasizes corporate planning, particularly international.
She is presently an executive member of the International Fiscal Association (Canadian
Branch). She is also a member of the CBA, CTF, CPTS, LSA, CICA, IFA and Insti-
tute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta (ICAA). Jack has previously served as a
Co-chair of the joint committee of the CBA and the CICA on taxation, Chair of the
national Tax Section of the CBA, governor and member of the executive committee of
the CTF, member of the Advisory Committee on Judicial Appointments for the Tax
Court of Canada, member of the Canada Revenue Agency's Tax Professionals Advisory
Committee, Chair of Calgary Legal Guidance and Director of CPTS. Author, speaker
and instructor; Jack has lectured on tax-related topics for CTF, IFA CPTS, CBA, CICA,
University of Calgary ‒ Faculty of Law and ICAA.

Co-chair of the fi rm's tax and estates department. Practice focuses on the income tax
aspects of corporate reorganizations, mergers & acquisitions, take-overs, debt fi nancing
transactions, transactions involving income funds, partnerships and other fl ow-through
vehicles, asset-based fi nancings, and cross-border fi nancing and leasing transactions.
Practice also includes personal tax planning and residency matters, foreign tax planning
for Canadian residents and structuring investments for non-residents into Canada. He
is the past Chair of the National Taxation Section of the Canadian Bar Association
and past Co-chair of the CBA-CPA Joint Committee on Taxation. He served on the
Canadian Tax Foundation's Board of Governors and is a past Director and President
of the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society. Has presented a number of papers on a variety
