Senior partner in Torys' Competition and Foreign Investment Review Practice. A
merger specialist, Jay Holsten has led some of the most complex and high-profi le merger
transactions in Canada in recent years. Also regularly advises clients in connection with
cartel investigations and abuse of dominance and other reviewable matters. Holsten has
developed particular expertise in the Canadian fi nancial services sector (banking, insur-
ance, securities) and has been involved in most of the signifi cant M&A transactions in the
sector over the past 15 years. Also acts for a number of major participants in the pharma-
ceutical sector, where he advises on the competition law aspects of a variety of business
arrangements, including patent litigation and related settlements. Chair of the Executive
Committee of the National Competition Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association.
