Ian Binnie is a partner in the Financial Services Group at Blake, Cassels & Graydon
LLP. His practice encompasses a broad range of business law matters, with a focus on
fi nancing transactions and fi nancial regulatory matters. Binnie has extensive experience in
all aspects of commercial fi nance, both domestically and internationally, including public
and private debt issuances, project fi nance (primarily in the power generation industry),
bilateral and syndicated lending, asset-based lending, private equity, second lien and
other forms of subordinated lending, securitization and derivative transactions. Binnie
has acknowledged expertise in negotiating and integrating commercial law and fi nance
documentation. He also has a long-standing interest in personal property security matters
and participates in a number of ongoing law reform initiatives in this fi eld.

and regulation of fi nancial institutions, including commercial banks, life and property
and casualty insurance companies, trust and loan companies, and other regulated and
unregulated providers of fi nancial services. Involved in all aspects of acquisitions, dives-
titures, reorganizations and joint ventures involving fi nancial service providers, as well
as regulatory and structuring issues, product development and distribution matters and
all aspects of the business of insurance. In addition, advises fi nancial services providers
on ownership structures, business powers, permitted investment and related structures,
corporate governance and risk management policies and systems, inter-company agree-
ments, cross-border supervision and delivery of services, outsourcing agreements, referral
arrangements and mortgage lender and broker licensing matters. Frequently involved in
the delivery of training through participation in industry conferences and organization-

Michael Burke is recognized by his peers and clients as one of the top securitization,
equipment leasing and fi nance lawyers in Canada, whose practice involves domestic
and cross-border transactions. He has acted on securitization transactions, developed
lending/leasing programs and acted for borrowers/lessees and lenders/lessors in a

both lenders and borrowers in transactions that include bank credit facilities, Canadian
