Counsel. One of Canada's most respected advocates, the Honorable Ian Binnie served
for nearly 14 years as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. Binnie authored more
than 170 opinions, including on landmark cases involving issues of patent interpretation
and validity, protection of trade-marks, media law, commercial disputes, punitive damages,
expert evidence and many aspects of constitutional, criminal and administrative law. Over
the course of three decades as a litigator, he argued cases in most of the common-law prov-
inces and appeared regularly before the Supreme Court on a range of constitutional, civil

Bill Horton practices as an arbitrator and mediator in Canadian and international busi-
ness disputes. He has been appointed tribunal chair, sole arbitrator and party nominee in
numerous substantial disputes, including ad hoc and institutional arbitrations involving
nuclear facilities, telecom, aircra engines, satellite and wireless industry disputes, govern-
ment privatization contracts, so ware licensing and other intellectual property. He is a
Canadian member of the NAFTA 2022 Committee and past Chair of the International
Litigation Committee of the International Bar Association. His arbitration affi liations in-
clude: ICC, ICDR, ADR Institute of Canada (ADR), CIETAC and the Chartered Insti-
tute of Arbitrators. Horton's professional recognitions include: the Lionel J. McGowan
Award of Excellence in Dispute Resolution conferred by the ADR Institute of Canada
