over 300 trials and arbitrations and has extensive experience arguing matters on appeal.
Has acted in numerous insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings, including cross-border
restructurings. Experience also includes acting as lead counsel in trials and arbitrations in
the fi elds of corporate and shareholder disputes, banking, insolvency, engineering, oil and
gas, contractual, patent and seismic data disputes. Appointed Queen's Counsel in 2010.

Bill Kaplan has extensive experience in virtually all litigation matters related to business
law. He has a particular practice focus on corporate commercial matters, insolvency law,
including numerous cross-border cases, securities law matters, and corporate governance
issues. Kaplan has appeared before all levels of the court system in British Columbia, the
Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada, the BC Securities Commission
and numerous other administrative tribunals and arbitration boards. Kaplan has practiced
in the full range of dispute resolution contexts, from traditional trials and related pre-trial
procedures to arbitrations and mediations. Kaplan is currently an Adjunct Professor of law
at the University of British Columbia, teaching in the area of negotiations. Kaplan received
his LLB from the University of British Columbia in 1979, he was admitted to the Bar in
British Columbia in 1980, received an LLM degree from Harvard University in 1981 and
was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2001.
David Mann is the Co-chair of the fi rm's National Insolvency and Restructuring Group.
His practice focuses on insolvency matters, having appeared regularly before Alberta's
Bankruptcy Court and Court of Appeal, as well as having made submissions to the On-
tario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Mann has acted for lenders,
debtors, receivers/trustees, creditors/counterparties, DIP fi nanciers, and acquisitors in a
variety of insolvency proceedings. Mann has also had extensive involvement with fi nan-
cial/derivatives contracts in insolvency proceedings and has participated in legislative ad-
visory committees respecting Alberta's Civil Enforcement Act, registered savings plan pro-
tection, and Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act reform. He is a member of the IIC and has
contributed to a number of articles and seminars for the CBA, the Legal Education Soci-
ety of Alberta and others. Admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1990.
