Practice focuses on patent prosecution in the electrical/electronics fi eld, and intellectual
property litigation. Litigation practice spans all areas of intellectual property with a par-
ticular focus on patent litigation, including pharmaceutical patent litigation. Experience in
both conventional litigation and litigation under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Com-
pliance) Regulations. Heavily involved in leading Canadian cases on the scope of anti-trust
claims relating to the use and acquisition of patent rights. Has appeared as counsel in intel-
lectual property matters before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Federal Court
of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada. Successfully represented Amazon.com
in Amazon.com Inc. v. Commissioner of Patents, in what has become a leading case regard-

Shane Hardy is a partner practicing in the area of trade-marks and copyright law. He acts
as counsel to a wide range of Canadian and international intellectual property rights hold-
ers and assists in the protection and enforcement of some of the world's most famous trade-
marks. Hardy is frequently retained to assist non-IP lawyers in defense of IP infringement
claims. He provides opinions to domestic and international clients on trade-mark avail-
ability and registrability. Hardy's practice has also involved the protection and enforce-
ment of copyrights, trade secrets and patent actions in the Ontario and Federal Courts. He
is a Registered Trade-mark Agent and a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of
Canada, the Toronto Intellectual Property Group and the International Trademark Asso-
ciation. Hardy was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002.
A founding member and partner (practicing through a law corporation) of Vancouver-
based employment and labor law boutique, Roper Greyell LLP, James Kondopulos advises
employers in employment, labor relations and human rights matters. He also acts for em-
ployers and employees in wrongful dismissal actions, and investigates and reports on alle-
gations of workplace harassment, bullying and code of conduct violations. Kondopulos
has represented and appeared on behalf of clients before all levels of court and a wide range
of workplace-related administrative tribunals in BC. He has served two terms as Chair of
the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) BC Branch's Employment Law Section and is an
Executive Member of the CBA's National Labour and Employment Law Section. He edits
the CBA's Labour and Employment Law Perspective newsletter and Wolters Kluwer

Partner in the Litigation practice. Matthew Milne-Smith's practice includes a broad

variety of courts and other tribunals, including the Supreme Court of Canada and the
Ontario Court of Appeal. He has acted as counsel on a number of leading cases decided by
the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme
Court of Canada in the areas of class actions, enforcement of foreign judgments, enforce-
ment of arbitration clauses, freedom of speech and solicitors' duty of loyalty. Named one
