John Torrey's practice involves the structuring, documentation and negotiation
of complex lending transactions. He acts regularly for both lenders and borrowers
in bilateral and syndicated, secured and unsecured fi nancings, most of which are
multi-currency and multijurisdictional in nature. Torrey has particular expertise in
acquisition and project fi nancings and all aspects of mine fi nancing and consider-
able experience with debt restructurings. Recent signifi cant experience includes the
fi nancing of the $5.8-billion acquisition of Safeway by Sobeys, the $2.5-billion fi nanc-
