and projects for TD. He has played a leading
role in TD's investment in fintech, includ-
ing creating, designing and implementing
an enterprise policy governing investments
in strategic fintech companies and oversee-
ing the legal function in numerous strategic
investments by TD in fintech technologies.
Smith has taken a major role in building a
more diverse and inclusive culture at TD,
including participating in the restructuring
of TD's Diversity and Inclusion counsel as
part of a strategic review, leading the LG-
BTQ2S+ communications work stream
and leading TD's General Counsel's People
Manager Engagement Committee.

natural resource and energy projects across
Canada. Smith also has extensive experi-
ence advising clients on the Crown's duty
to consult and accommodate Indigenous
peoples, as well as negotiating and dra-
ing precedent-setting agreements between
Indigenous people, proponents, and other
governments. Smith is recognized as a
thought-leader and a highly skilled nego-
tiator in government-to-government ne-
gotiations. He is also deeply committed to
increasing access to justice for Indigenous
peoples — most recently providing pro
bono legal information to members of a
First Nation in connection with their trea-
