e scope of work consists of a new station
building with a large public plaza, new six-storey
parking structure with pedestrian connection to
rail platform and redevelopment of existing park-
ing areas, upgrades to existing rail platform, bus
loop with a minimum of eight bus bays for GO
and MiWay bus service and John Street Extension.
Community and green benefits of the project
include reduced traffic congestion, greenhouse
gases and fuel consumption, and improved quality
of life for commuters by reducing daily travel time.
(RER was announced in 2014 by the Province
of Ontario, and will transform the Greater Toron-
to and Hamilton Area over the next decade. e
RER system will bring: electric trains running
every 15 minutes or better, all day and in both dir-
ections, within the most heavily travelled sections
of the network; four times the number of trips out-
side of weekday rush-hour periods, including even-
ings and weekends; and twice the number of trips
during weekday rush-hour periods.)
