Donald M. Cameron is a partner with Bereskin & Parr LLP, head of the Litigation practice group and a
member of the Patents, Trademarks and Copyright & Digital Media practice groups. His practice focuses on
intellectual property litigation, particularly relating to patent, trade-mark, copyright, trade secrets law and
technology licenses. He also advises clients on intellectual property portfolio strategies and the intellectual
property aspects of technology licensing. He is certified by e Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist
in Intellectual Property Law (Patents, Trade-marks and Copyright) and Civil Litigation. Cameron has
participated in intellectual property law litigation involving a broad range of technologies and businesses,
including electromagnetic fields and induction, semiconductor chip fabrication, telecommunications,
mechanical devices, bioengineering, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and computer databases.
He was a senior trial counsel in Canada's first DNA patent trial and appeal.

Practice focuses on all types of intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution, particularly in
the chemical and pharmaceutical areas. Has appeared in the trial and appeal levels of the Federal Court
and in the Supreme Court of Canada in cases ranging from pharmaceuticals to construction toys to
washing machine agitators. Advises clients on pre-litigation issues, such as providing freedom-to-operate,
infringement and validity opinions. Cases have involved issues including anticipation, obviousness, utility,
the duty of good faith, infringement, the doctrine of functionality in trade-mark law, survey evidence and
copyright. Has a patent prosecution practice with an emphasis on patenting in the chemical and biotech
industries. Co-author of two of the main patent textbooks in Canada. Frequent author and speaker on
