What It Means
WE ARE VERY PROUD of our Lexpert Rising Stars Winners, and they are proud of the
accomplishments the Awards represent. We are also proud of the Finalists in this highly
competitive field. Many Winners suggest that receiving the Award was a mid-career point
at which they took stock, and looked for the next challenge. It would be interesting to see
where all of the Rising Stars alumni are now situated in their career. Did they make a change
at their same company or firm, or make a career change altogether?
Stockwoods LLP partner Luisa Ritacca, who won in 2014, noted: "It represented an
acknowledgment that my partners, colleagues and peers believed that even at a relatively
young stage of my career, I was doing good work and making a difference." Karima Kanani,
a Miller omson LLP partner in Toronto, told Lexpert that the "honour was humbling
and inspiring. It has empowered me to continue to use my role as counsel as a platform to
advance the health system." Winners oen take a broader level of meaning from it. Torys
LLP partner Dany Assaf, said: "It is an honour that continues to promote excellence in our
profession and the role of lawyers in our broader community." Kanani also observed, "e
Award was also very meaningful at a personal level as an example for my daughters that with
passion and perseverance there are no limits."
No limits, indeed. When you read about this year's Winners (p. 33), you might ask,
"What will they do next?"
