THE ROAD TO A CAREER in law can be a hard one. is will surely come as no surprise to law
students, who are told from the outset — and throughout their legal training — of the challenges that await
them. Students and lawyers starting out, however, should take some solace from the work that law firms are
doing to attract the right people and give them every opportunity to succeed.
ese initiatives are varied and will mean different things to different students. But young lawyers
today aren't thrown into the deep end in the way they once were. Firms today provide business courses to
students who may need training in the fundamentals. ey've developed diversity programs to work toward
