BRITISH COLUMBIA VANCOUVER
In Vancouver, Jeffrey Read (see above) and
Chat Ortved joined Lawson Lundell LLP
as partners. Both have diverse corporate and
securities law practices. Ortved focuses on
M&A, private equity, corporate governance
and corporate finance. He was most recently
a partner with Bull Housser (now merged
with Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP),
and prior to that at Goodmans LLP.
Michelle Yung and Meghan Murtha
moved to Borden Ladner Gervais LLP
(BLG) where they are both associates. ey
practise commercial real estate law including
commercial leasing, acquisitions and dispo-
sitions, real estate development and lending.
Yung was most recently legal counsel with
Cadillac Fairview Corp. Ltd. Murtha was
previously at Bull Housser.
Julia Winters is now an associate at Law-
son Lundell LLP where she practises in the
firm's corporate commercial group. She was
previously with Gowling WLG.
Maggie Campbell and Mike Hamata
moved to Roper Greyell LLP, a labour and
employment firm. Campbell advises on all
aspects of employment relations. Hamata
advises employers on issues including policy
grievances and disputes with unions. Both
started their careers at Davis LLP.
ALBERTA CALGARY
In Calgary, Robert (Bob) Homersham
joined Stikeman Elliott LLP as senior coun-
sel. He is an experienced advisor on land-use
planning and development matters. He also
advocates for developers before various mu-
nicipal councils and appeals boards. Hom-
ersham was most recently with Fasken Mar-
tineau DuMoulin LLP.
BLG welcomed Xiaodi Jin, Patrick
Mah and Anisa Diwan as associates. Jin is
a member of the firm's securities and capital
markets group. He has recently acted on a
significant number of M&A transactions
involving entities based in China. Prior to
Walied Soliman is now Chair of
Norton Rose Fulbright in Canada,
replacing Norman Steinberg in the
role. He also now chairs the firm's
partnership committee, which
involves client relations. Soliman
has a thriving practice in takeover
defence and shareholder activism.
He has acted on a great number
of high-profile proxy battles, includ-
ing, recently, advising the board of
Canadian Oil Sands in defence of
the hostile takeover bid by Suncor
Energy. He remains co-chair of
Norton Rose Fulbright's Canadian
"special situations" team.

Jeff Read moved his diverse corpo-
rate and securities law practice to
Lawson Lundell, where he is now a
partner. He relocated from Borden
Ladner Gervais LLP. Read advises
companies and securities dealers
— both international and domestic
— on their Canadian corporate-
commercial transactions. His prac-
tice also involves acting on friendly
and hostile M&As and advising on
proxy contests. His clients include
private equity groups and large BC-
based public companies. Read's
expertise extends to the energy
sector and trade with Asia.
Henry Bertossi, a veteran corpor-
ate-commercial practitioner with
three decades of experience, joined
the partnership of Allen McDonald
Swartz LLP. He assists clients with
complex legal matters, such as
M&A, strategic alliances, reorgan-
izations and sensitive stakeholder
relations. Bertossi's diverse roster
of clients includes private and
family-owned companies as well
as multinational corporations.
He advises private entrepreneurs
on family business disputes and
foreign enterprises on establishing
operations in Canada.
