Denise Nawata is a corporate-commercial partner practicing in the fields of corporate finance and
securities, cross-border mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance law. Her practice is focused on
complex business transactions, for both public and private companies at various stages of their corporate
growth. Nawata acts for clients in a wide range of industries, including natural resources (with extension
experience in mining and oil & gas transactions), technology and life sciences. In 2015, Nawata joined the
faculty of UBC's Sauder School of Business as an Adjunct Professor to help design an inaugural course on

Lewis Retik is a partner in the Gowling WLG Ottawa office, practicing primarily in the area of regulatory
and commercial law. Retik's practice focuses on regulated and unregulated products, including product
distribution, manufacturing, advertising, packaging and labeling, and regulatory licensing. Retik has
extensive experience working in a variety of specialized industries, including food, natural health product,
cosmetic and pharmaceutical. Retik also addresses regulatory compliance and commercial issues that relate
to multi-level marketing, direct selling, consumer protection, and products that use the radio frequency
spectrum. He is oen responsible for working with clients to develop marketing strategies and packaging and
