MACKENZIE VAUGHAN HOSPITAL REACHES FINANCIAL CLOSE CLOSING DATE: OCTOBER 21, 2016 On October 21, 2016, Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Mackenzie Health (MH) announced that financial close was reached on the new Mack- enzie Vaughan Hospital in Ontario's York Region. In August, 2016, Plenary Health was awarded the fixed-price contract to design, build, finance and maintain the new hospital. is is the first hospital to be built in the city of Vaughan, and the first new hospital to be built in York Region in the last 30 years. e contract is valued at approximately $1.3 billion which reflects the payments made during construction, the substantial completion payment and the monthly service payments before inflation adjustments. Construction is expected to be com- pleted in 2020. It will be the first hospital in Can- ada to feature fully integrated "smart" technology. Gowling WLG provided counsel to Infrastruc- ture Ontario and Mackenzie Health with a team consisting of Merie-Anne Beavis, Lindsay Wong, Katie Higgins, Leslie Blumer and Syll Kushner.
