In Winnipeg, MLT Aikins welcomed
Grant Stefanson who has joined the firm
as a partner. A former managing partner
of D'Arcy & Deacon LLP, his practice in-

vising retail pharmacies.
Guy Joubert, who retired from MLT
Aikins last year, received the 2017 Distin-
guished Service Award from the Manitoba
Bar Association for exemplifying "ideals of
service to the legal profession."
ONTARIO TORONTO, OTTAWA
In Toronto, Derek Bell moved his litiga-
tion practice to DLA Piper (Canada) LLP
where he is now a partner. He was previ-
ously a partner at Bennett Jones. He has
been counsel in complex commercial litiga-
tion matters, including acting for Catalyst
Capital Group in its opposition to the ac-
quisition of Shaw Media by Corus, which
was among Lexpert's Top 10 deals of 2016.
Lerners LLP welcomed Jamieson Half-
night as a partner and Anne Juntunen as
an associate. Both advise insurance compa-
nies on specialty claims and coverage under
fidelity, directors' and officers', professional
liability, commercial general liability and
property policies. ey moved from Half-
night & McKinlay.
Stéphane Teasdale joined Cassels
Brock & Blackwell LLP as a partner, where
he offers his expertise on the Québec fran-
chise market to franchise and distributions
systems at home and abroad. He was previ-
ously at Dentons Canada LLP.
Tom Koutoulakis and Lawrence
Wilder (see p. 14) relocated their corporate
finance, securities and M&A practices to
Miller omson from Cassels Brock. Kou-
toulakis recently acted for the Special Com-
mittee of the Board of Directors of Versa-
Bank in its merger with PWC Capital Inc.
Blaney McMurtry LLP welcomed
Mervyn Abramowitz as a partner. He is
certified as a specialist in both Civil Litiga-
tion and Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law.
His clientele is both in Canada and the US.
Parna Sabet-Stephenson joined Gowl-
ing WLG as a partner advising on outsourc-
ing, technology law and e-commerce. She
moved from Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP.
In Ottawa, Lorraine Mastersmith and
Sarah Crowe joined Gowling WLG as
partners. Mastersmith focuses on corporate
and securities law. She was most recently
at Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall.
Crowe is a commercial real estate lawyer.

joined Miller omson as a partner and

frastructure group. His practice focuses on
all stages of project development; he advises
on the structuring, procurement, financing,

moved from Dentons Canada.
Kevin O'Brien joins De Grandpré Chait
LLP as a partner in the firm's real estate
group. He focuses on commercial/transac-
tional law, with an emphasis on commercial
real estate. He was previously senior legal
counsel at TransForce Inc.
In Québec City, Simon Lemay joined
ROBIC, LLP as a partner. He practises in-
tellectual property law and is also a regis-
tered trade-mark agent. He was previously
with Lavery, de Billy, L.L.P.

Langlois lawyers welcomed Pierre-
Luc Desgagné, former VP Corporate
Affairs and Secretary General of
Hydro-Québec, to its stable of busi-
ness lawyers. Desgagné — who
has expertise in energy, environ-
mental and transportation law, as
well as governmental and public
affairs — managed a variety of
complex files in his various senior
roles at Hydro-Québec. He oversaw
the rollout of the "Electric Circuit,"
Canada's first public charging net-
work for electric vehicles. Desgagné
was Deputy Chief of Staff to former
Québec Premier Lucien Bouchard.

newly opened Halifax office. She
was previously with McInnes Coop-
er. She is called to the Bars of On-
tario, Alberta and Nova Scotia. She
is also a Certified Human Resource
Professional. In 2003, she led the
effort to found the Canadian Associ-
ation of Counsel to Employers,
an association of management-side
labour and employment lawyers,
for which she was recognized
with a Heenan Ross Award.
