AGAIN THIS YEAR, Lexpert is pleased to join with Deloitte, omson Reuters Financial &
Risk and e Globe and Mail to celebrate the Canadian Dealmakers Awards. e Winners
at this event are your clients, Canadian companies engaging in M&A activities at home and
around the world. You will know as well as they do that these activities were set in chal-
lenging circumstances. ese challenges may have included differing cross-border securi-
ties regulations, currency devaluations and sector contractions. Navigating through those
and other challenges required leadership, which your clients clearly provided. eir lawyers
informed those leaders and advocated for them. You were also encouraged by their bold
moves. Positivity is exciting and fulfilling to be amidst ... and it also begets a self-fulfilling
prophecy. Business people and their lawyers who see opportunities where others see gloom
indeed attract opportunities. As the saying credited to Henry Ford goes, "Whether you can
or can't, you're right."

CORRECTIONS In the January/February edition of "Big Suits," the description of the decision
in Interoil v. Mulacek contained errors. e names Meagan Hannam, Mathew Good, Grant Macdonald,
and Macdonald & Company were misspelled. In "Big Deals," the description of Marriott's acquisition
of Starwood Hotels omitted mention of Bennett Jones LLP, which advised Starwood. Lexpert Magazine
deeply regrets the errors and will work to avoid them in the future.
