BRITISH COLUMBIA VANCOUVER
In Vancouver, John Weston (see above) and
Lucia Stuhldreier joined McMillan LLP.
Stuhldreier is now a partner at the firm af-
ter making the move from Aikins, MacAu-
lay & orvaldson LLP (now MLT Aikins
LLP) in Winnipeg. She advises clients in the
rail shipping, aviation and trucking indus-
tries on transportation law.
Peter Rowntree is now an associate at
DLA Piper (Canada) LLP where he practises
in the firm's corporate group. He has experi-
ence working with clients in a broad range
of industries, including pension funds, tech-
nology and real estate.
ALBERTA CALGARY, EDMONTON
In Calgary, Matthew Epp moved to Borden
Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG), where he is now
a partner. He brings his securities regula-
tory expertise to the firm. As a member of
the litigation practice group, Epp focuses on
securities litigation, commercial and share-
holder disputes and class actions. Significant
matters include acting on one of the largest
market manipulation cases in Canada. He
is a former Alberta Securities Commission
enforcement counsel.
Jason Buttuls joined BLG as an associate.
Buttuls is a member of the firm's construc-
tion law practice group.
In Edmonton, Sierra Heisler joined
DLA Piper (Canada) LLP as an associate.
Heisler focuses her practice on corporate
and commercial transactions.
ONTARIO TORONTO
In Toronto, John Jason moved his financial
services regulatory practice to Cassels Brock
& Blackwell LLP. Jason has more than 20
years of experience advising on all facets
of the regulation of financial institutions,
compliance, anti-money laundering and
regulatory risk management. He was most
recently counsel at Norton Rose Fulbright
Canada LLP, and prior to that was Senior
Greg Shannon, QC, relocated his
diverse corporate practice to Gowl-
ing WLG, where he is now a partner.
Shannon's expertise includes cor-
porate finance, M&A, tax and cor-
porate governance — all informed
by his substantial cross-border
experience. He acts as counsel
for corporate reorganizations, inter-
national transactions and M&A. He
co-founded the Calgary Enterprise
Forum Society, which fosters emer-
ging business in Southern Alberta,
and was its chair until 2016. He is
also a passionate amateur pianist;
he began playing at age four.

MP John Weston returns to the
practice of law with a position as
counsel at McMillan LLP. He is a
member of the firm's government
and public policy practice group,
where he has a regulatory practice
focused on Asian clientele. His
international experience includes
practising law in Taiwan with Baker
& McKenzie and Bennett Jones
Verchere Weston. Back in Canada,
he was associate counsel at Rus-
sell DuMoulin before co-founding
Access Law Group. Weston speaks
English, French and Mandarin.
Alex MacFarlane joined Borden Lad-
ner Gervais LLP after making the
move from Gowling WLG. He is an
experienced restructuring and insol-
vency law practitioner who regularly
acts in cross-border proceedings
under the Companies' Creditors Ar-
rangement Act, the Bankruptcy and
Insolvency Act and the Winding-Up
and Restructuring Act. He regularly
appears before the Ontario Superior
Court of Justice's Commercial List.
Clients have included energy com-
pany Comstock Canada in its restruc-
turing and Nutrasource Diagnostics
in its acquisition of Diteba.
