Markus Koehnen has appeared before all levels of court in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada,
as well as before domestic and international arbitral tribunals. His practice concentrates on complex com-
mercial litigation with particular focus on shareholder rights/corporate governance and cross-border issues.
Significant cases have included acting in cross-border insolvencies, investor state arbitrations, private interna-
tional arbitrations and numerous conflicts of laws cases. Most recently he defended four Chinese officers of
Sino-Forest Corporation in a lengthy Securities Commission proceeding. He is the author of Oppression and
Related Remedies, published by omson Reuters, teaches at the Institute of Corporate Directors and is a past
Litigation Committee Co-chair of the International Bar Association.
