ONTARIO TORONTO, OTTAWA
In Toronto, David Leonard was appoint-
ed CEO of McCarthy Tétrault, following
outgoing CEO Marc-André Blanchard's
appointment as Ambassador of Canada to
the United Nations. Leonard has spent his
entire career with the firm — joining as an
associate in 1994, and most recently serv-
ing as the firm's national litigation practice
group leader. In his new role, he will oversee
more than 550 lawyers and the operations
of all six offices in Canada and the UK.
Baker & McKenzie LLP welcomed
Dean Dolan as a partner focused on data
privacy matters. Dolan was most recently
Vice President, Associate General Counsel
and Privacy Officer for Walmart Canada
Corporation. He works with the firm's
global information technology and com-
munications practice group in advising
clients on compliance and regulatory risks
around security of information.
Ian Michael is now a partner at Bennett
Jones LLP aer making the move from
McCarthy Tétrault. He practises corporate
and securities law with a focus on public
M&A and corporate finance. His clients
include Chinese companies doing business
in Canada, as well as Canadian companies
doing business in China. He is currently a
member of the Securities Advisory Com-
mittee of the OSC.
Heather Devine joined the partnership
of Isaacs & Company where she practises
transportation law and business litigation,
including patent, aviation and maritime.
She was previously with Gowling WLG.
Alan Kenigsberg moved his practice to
Osler where he is now a partner. Kenigsberg
practices taxation law with an emphasis on
planning and advising on cross-border taxa-
tion issues, commodity taxation, customs,
among other aspects. He was previously a
partner with Stikeman Elliott LLP.
Pinar Ozyetis has moved from Fogler,
Rubinoff LLP to LoyaltyOne, Inc., where
she is now General Counsel of the AIR
MILES Reward Program.
Howard Wetston, QC, joined Good-
mans LLP as counsel, where he will offer
his expertise in competition law and policy,
securities regulation, energy regulation and
administrative law. Wetston was the Chair
and CEO of the OSC from 2010 to 2015.
Prior to that, he was the Chair and CEO of
the Ontario Energy Board.
BLG hired Christine Laviolette, Henry
Ngan, Hugh Meighen, Adam Sproat and
Laura Day as associates.
Russel Drew joined DLA Piper (Can-
ada) LLP as an associate with a corporate
commercial practice.
In Ottawa, Peter Harder, formerly a se-
nior policy advisor at Dentons Canada LLP,
was sworn in as a privy councillor in the
Senate and now serves as the Government
Representative in the Senate.
Michelle Doody and Jenna Preston
joined BLG as associates.
QUÉBEC MONTRÉAL
In Montréal, Charles Malone and joined
BLG as a practice support lawyer. He works
with and supports the firm's corporate and
capital markets group nationally.
Catherine Deslauriers (labour & em-
ployment) and Alexandre Desjardins (en-
vironmental) joined BLG as associates.

MOVES
Vanessa Grant, a transactional
lawyer with specific expertise in the
technology and life sciences indus-
tries, made the move to Norton Rose
Fulbright Canada from Gowling WLG.
Grant has 20 years of experience
practising M&A and corporate finance
including private equity. She is the
co-Director of the Osgoode Hall LLM
program in business law, where she
teaches corporate finance. Addition-
ally, she is the Chair of Summer-
Works Theatre Festival. A performer
herself, Grant holds a degree in vocal
performance and is a freelance
opera singer (mezzo soprano).

Isabelle Briand is now a partner at Lavery
where she focuses her practice on crimin-
al matters as part of the firm's administra-
tive law group. (Lavery incorporates crim-
inal lawyers into its multidisciplinary team
— the only major firm in Québec to do so.)
Briand has successfully argued numerous
complex cases related to economic crimes
and corruption. She has worked as a pros-
ecutor for 15 years, most recently as chief
prosecutor for the Bureau de lutte à la
corruption et à la malversation (BLCM)
— an organization that she helped
to create which is dedicated to fighting
corruption and embezzlement.
