BRITISH COLUMBIA VANCOUVER
In Vancouver, William Everett, QC, le
Lawson Lundell LLP aer a distinguished
career as a litigator and partner. He prac-
tised at the firm for more than 44 years
representing clients at all levels of courts, in-
cluding the Supreme Court of Canada. He
takes up an appointment at the BC Utilities
Commission, where he is a Commissioner,
as well as at the Property Assessment Appeal
Board, where he is a member. Everett also of-
fers his experience as a mediator and arbitra-
tor at Vancouver Arbitration Chambers.
R.J. Randall Hordo, QC, has been pro-
moted to partner at Nathanson, Schachter
& ompson LLP. He was previously asso-
ciated senior counsel at the firm. Hordo is
an experienced litigator and arbitrator, with
particular expertise in aviation law (regula-
tion & liability).
ALBERTA CALGARY
In Calgary, Mark Franko joined Borden
Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) as counsel and
member of the firm's securities and capital
markets practice group. He acts on securi-
ties and finance matters including corporate
M&A, asset acquisitions and dispositions as
well as corporate governance. Prior to join-
ing BLG, Franko was General Counsel for
Legacy Oil + Gas Inc. and a partner of Mc-
Carthy Tétrault LLP.
Partner Brian iessen (see above) and
associate Shaun Parker joined the employ-
ment, labour and litigation practice of Osler,
Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. Both made the
move from Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP.
Michael Whitt, QC, leader of Bennett
Jones LLP's information technology prac-
tice group, was invited to join the Sedona
Conference Working Group 11 draing
team. He is the only lawyer from a Cana-
dian firm to be selected. e focus of the
group is data security & privacy liability and
responding to cyber incidents. e Sedona
Brian Thiessen made the move to
Osler, where he continues to advise
on employment and labour law
and especially on privacy-related
matters. Thiessen spent 16 years
at Blakes, where he co-led the
firm's national employment and
labour practice. He has acted on
many high-profile deals including
KUFPEC Canada acquiring a 30 per
cent interest in Chevron Canada's
Duvernay shale play and the Sobeys
acquisition of Safeway. Thiessen is
the Vice Chair of the Calgary Police
Commission, and has served on the
board of Ronald McDonald House.

Karen Carteri joined the partnership
of Nathanson, Schachter & Thomp-
son where she continues her litiga-
tion practice. She was formerly
the head of McMillan's Vancouver
advocacy and litigation group. Car-
teri, who received a Lexpert Rising
Stars award in 2015, was first
named an equity partner at the age
of 34. She focuses on commercial
litigation, mostly in banking and
natural resources. Her cases include
Garcia v. Tahoe Resources Inc., where
she argued successfully for Tahoe's
application to stay an action
on jurisdictional grounds.
John O'Connor is now a partner at
Wildeboer Dellelce after making the
move from Stikeman Elliott. His practice
focuses on all areas of taxation law,
including M&A, divestitures, financings,
reorganizations and private equity. Re-
cently, he advised on Centric Health's
divestiture of certain business units to
Audax and the sale of MTS's Allstream
division to Zayo. O'Connor is the Can-
adian National Tax Reporter for the
International Bar Association. He is
also a member of the International
Fiscal Association (IFA), where he
serves as secretary of the Young
IFA Network Committee.
