In Vancouver, Maxwell Brunette moved
his employment and labour law practice to
Gowling WLG, where he is now a partner.
Brunette was previously with Blake, Cas-
sels & Graydon LLP in Calgary.
Stephen Holmes joined Borden Ladner
Gervais LLP (BLG) as counsel. He focuses
his practice on tax planning.
Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP (now
Gowling WLG) welcomed Jonathan Ross
(restructuring and insolvency) and Mi-
chael Schalke (employment and labour)
into its partnership.
Jamie Templeton (project finance and
banking) was admitted to the partnership
of Stikeman Elliott LLP.
ALBERTA CALGARY
In Calgary, David Lefebvre is now a part-
ner at Dentons Canada LLP. He is a senior
practitioner of corporate law and focuses
on matters including M&A and private eq-
uity. He was most recently with Gowlings.
Kevin Barr joined BLG as counsel. His
practice focuses on construction, as well as
restructuring and insolvency law.
Lara Mason was admitted to the part-
nership of Norton Rose Fulbright Canada
LLP. She practises litigation.
Gowlings (now Gowling WLG) wel-
comed four lawyers to its partnership in
Calgary: Jennifer Koschinsky (restruc-
turing, employment and labour), Birch
Miller (employment and labour), Derrick
Pagenkopf (litigation) and Steve Will
(corporate finance, M&A).
Benjamin Hudy (corporate finance and
securities) was admitted to the partnership
of Stikeman Elliott.
ONTARIO TORONTO, OTTAWA
In Toronto, Teresa Dufort is McMil-
lan LLP's new CEO, and one of the few
women to assume the top leadership role
at a large Canadian law firm. Dufort takes
the reins from Andrew Kent, who stepped
down aer 10 years as
CEO during which
he transformed the firm through three all-
Canadian mergers.

replaces McMillan's CEO/COO model.
e other committee members are David
Dunlop, Timothy Murphy and Stephen
Wortley (who works from the Vancouver
office as well as from Hong Kong). All four
members continue their active practices at
the firm.
Davit Akman is now a partner at BLG
where he practises competition law and
litigation. He advises on a wide range of
matters, including cartel investigations
and private actions as well as commercial
contract disputes. Akman made the move
from Gowlings.
Jason Markwell joined the intellectual
property practice of Belmore Neidrauer
LLP as a partner. He represents pharma-
ceutical companies in patent and regula-
tory disputes. Markwell was previously
with Gowlings.
Hugh Christie, Edward Majewski
and Michael Comartin joined Ogletree
Deakins Nash Smoak & Stewart PC, a US
management-side labour and employment
firm, which recently opened its first Can-
adian office. Christie joins as the office's
managing partner, Majewski joins as part-
ner, and Comartin is now an associate at
the firm. All three lawyers made the move
from Gowlings.
Pallett Valo LLP welcomed Nash
Lakha, former CEO of Parmalat Canada
Inc., as an advisor.
Gowlings (now Gowling WLG) wel-
comed four lawyers as partners in Toronto:
Leila Burden Nixon (financial services),
Daniel Cole (advertising, marketing and
regulatory affairs), Natalie Rizkalla-
Kamel (intellectual property) and John
Sorensen (tax).
In Ottawa, Elder Marques is now Chief
of Staff for the Honourable Navdeep
Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and
Economic Development. Marques was pre-
viously at McCarthy Tétrault LLP.
Gowlings (now Gowling WLG) wel-
comed three new partners in Ottawa: Gor-
don Cudney (corporate finance), Martin
Lapner (medical defence) and Jaclyn Mar-
mara (real estate and financial services).
Jeffrey Coghlan joined BLG as an as-
sociate practising intellectual property law.
QUÉBEC MONTRÉAL
In Montréal, Alfred Buggé moved his
securities law and M&A practice to BLG,
where he is now a partner. Buggé also
works from the firm's Toronto office. He
was previously with Blakes.
Alexander Bayus, who practises com-
mercial litigation, joined the partnership of
Gowlings (now Gowling WLG).
Joseph Reynaud (restructuring and in-
solvency) and was admitted to the partner-
ship of Stikeman Elliott.
ATLANTIC CANADA HALIFAX,
MONCTON, CHARLOTTETOWN

In Halifax,
Geoffrey Machum, QC, was elected chair
of the Partnership Board of Stewart McK-
elvey. Machum is a senior partner focusing
on commercial litigation.
Machum succeeds Paul Smith, who
practises corporate, corporate finance and
trust law from the firm's St. John office, and
had been chair since 2011.
Cox & Palmer welcomed five lawyers to
its partnership: Sean Glover (banking and
finance), Nicholas Mott (debt recovery
and enforcement) and Ezra van Gelder
(commercial litigation) in Halifax; Talia
Profit (civil and commercial litigation) in
Moncton; and Robin Aitken (estate and
tax planning) in Charlottetown.
In Charlottetown, Scott Barry (litiga-
tion and real estate) was admitted to the
partnership of Stewart McKelvey.
