February/March 2016 23 TOOLS OF THE TRADE FOOT PROTECTION FOOT WARMERS Ergodyne has announced the launch of the N-Ferno Disposable Foot Warmer. This disposable, one-size- fi ts-all foot warming pack will help workers work comfortably in any cold indoor or outdoor job site. As warm as some work boots, this warming pack provides additional heat inside footwear. Workers can activate the disposable foot warmer by simply opening the pack. The all- natural ingredients heat up quickly as soon as they come in contact with oxygen and can warm feet for up to seven hours. Plus, when it comes time to pack up and head home, workers simply place their foot warmers in a Ziploc bag and reuse the next day. Ideal for work in a variety of cold locations, such as an oil rig or unheated warehouse. www.ergodyne.com MID-SOLE TRACTION Geroline has introduced the new K1 Mid-Sole Ice Cleat. The mid-sole boasts an innovative design that was devel- oped with a lot of industry feedback. It is designed to be put on the boot at the beginning of the winter season and left on. When it is slippery outside, it can rotate to the bottom of the boot to provide traction and at all other times (such as when walking indoors, driving or climbing ladders and scaffolding) it can be simply rotated to the top of the boot. It is always there when workers need it. This product uses Geroline's Heelstop technology by locking the heel and the sole of the foot so both are protected from slipping. Some of the additional features are: one size fi ts all (adjustable strap); light- weight and non-cumbersome; industry standard tungsten carbide studs; and a hi-vis band. www.geroline.ca SMALL-SIZE TOE CAP Impacto has intro- duced its Turbotoe toe cap shoe protector in size XXS. It fi ts women sizes 4 and 5 and men sizes 2 and 4 and has a purple steel toe. The toe cap footwear is ideal for any work environment that carries the risk of toe damage, including accidental impact, crushing or stubbing. The footwear is made of fl exible, pliable PVC with treads under the sole to prevent slipping and help liquid fl ow away from the foot. The PVC plastic is 100 per cent waterproof and will not harden, stiffen or crack. It is designed to withstand impact velocity of a minimum of 3.32 metres per second. The overshoe can be comfortably worn over a low-heel, dress and running shoes as well as most boots. It is perfect for visitors, casual or temporary workers, management, clerical staff and sales staff, says the manufacturer. The Turbotoe meets CSA standard Z334-14 - Protective Footwear and the certifi ed steel toe meets ASTM F2412-11 and ASTM F2413-11. www.impacto.ca OHS PRODUCTS DATA-DRIVEN HARNESS Capital Safety has launched the DBI-SALA ExoFit STRATA harness. This full-body safety har- ness is designed and tested with data-driven, third-party research, resulting in a harness that is more comfortable, cooler and lighter, says the manufacturer. The LIFT- ech Load Distribution System takes the weight off a worker's shoulders and redistributes it down to the hips, reducing forces on the shoulders up to 85 per cent when compared to leading harnesses, says Capital Safety. PolarMesh padding keeps users' backs cooler with greater air fl ow. A Revolver Vertical Torso Adjuster and Tri-Lock Revolver Connectors, which offer added security around the legs, have both been added to help work- ers adjust their harness to the perfect fi t. www.capitalsafety.com SRL FOR HARSH ENVIRONMENTS Honeywell's new Miller DuraSeal Self-Retracting Lifeline (SRL) is designed to provide greater reli- ability and safety in the harshest environments, including onshore and offshore oil and gas, mining and petrochemical sites. The DuraSeal SRL introduces patent-pending sealed technology that prevents con- taminants from entering the mechanism — earning the design an IP69K certifi cation, the industry's high- est sealed technology rating — and ensures that the self-retracting lifeline's brake system, power spring and bearings are never exposed to debris, water or chemicals. The braking system is designed to with- stand multiple falls. The unit is easy to install and transport, and quick, low-cost lifeline replacements in the fi eld are possible. Engineered to be up to 30 per cent lighter in weight than competitive sealed SRLs, the DuraSeal reduces user fatigue and increases productivity, says the manufacturer. www.honeywell.com CLOUD APP FOR LONE WORKERS AntrisPRO is a cloud application for lone workers that is made in Canada. Before conducting fi eld work, employ- ees enter their trip plans into a web site or mobile application. Workers use a web map to plot a series of locations along their route with expected arrival times that serve as checkpoints. When an employee does not check in via text message, the applica- tion automatically executes a multi-step reminder and alert process that contacts the employee via text, email and phone call. If the worker does not respond, her manager receives an email and text alert with her trip plan so the information can be quickly forwarded to emergency responders if needed. Antri- sPRO stores data about each fi eld worker including trip history, vehicle information, medical condi- tions and allergies. AntrisPRO includes TracDash, a centralized dashboard for managers that features a live web map of workers' locations, as well as their trip progress. Through the dashboard, managers can generate customized reports and analyze individual and group workfl ows to effectively deploy resources. www.antris.com HEAD AND FACE HARD HAT BRIM BrimGuard has launched a new hi-vis product line designed for heightened refl ectivity and reduced overall product weight (3 ounces). The manufactur- er's goal was to exceed requirements within ANSI/ ISEA 107 – 2010 using 3M Scotchlite 8712 refl ective tape. BrimGuard Hi-Viz ULTRA yellow is the most popular hi-viz product combining refl ectivity for night workers plus the high visibility yellow brim for day work. Whenever night and day visibility is an essential piece of the health and safety plan, BrimGuard ULTRA colour choices enhance worker safety, access management and employee identifi ca- tion, says the manufacturer. BrimGuard is a reusable, dielectric, silicone hard hat accessory that uses no adhesives and does not affect the integrity of the hard hat — it is simply stretched over the brim elimi- nating the need for stickers or tape and eases hard hat inspection. BrimGuard fi ts most popular styles of full brim and cap style hard hats. www.brimguard.com BROWGUARD Allegro has unveiled the polycarbonate Browguard face protector. The light- weight lenses provide full face and eye protection against spatters, small par- ticles and non-hazardous liquids. Browguard is made for most work appli- cations, including grinding, cutting, brazing and machining. The sleek wrap-around design can also be worn comfortably with impact resistant safety glasses. Any worker can feel confi dent performing a job where particles could fl y or a grinding wheel could break, says the manufacturer. The lenses do not turn yellow over time and can be easily con- nected to a hard hat with functionality that allows for convenient fl ip-up movement when the lens is not in use. The polycarbonate lenses are available in clear, dark green, IR3 and IR5. The Browguard meets ANSI Z87.1. www.allegrosafety.com CLASSIC HARD HAT Bullard's Classic Hard Hat is all about comfort, without sacrifi cing safety. It provides enhanced ventilation, increased protection from the sun and greater comfort for outdoor workers, says the manufacturer. The Clas- sic is made from high-density polyethylene and is equipped with the Bullard six-point, Flex-Gear ratchet suspension system for a truly customized and com- fortable fi t. It features a pillowed brow pad and front and rear vertical height adjustments. It is available in full-brim and cap styles. The wider profi le helps protect against sun exposure, rain, snow and dust. The company logo can be applied in eight different locations. It is ideal for most applications. Accessory slots accept a wide variety of attachments and suspen- sion snaps in with an audible click so users know it's assembled correctly. The Bullard Classic meets or exceeds ANSI/ISEA classifi cation: Z89.1-2014, Type I, Class E and G requirements and CSA classifi cation: Z94.1-2005, Type I, Class E and G. www.bullard.com
