Bill Kaplan has extensive experience in virtually all litigation matters related to business
law. He has a particular practice focus on corporate commercial matters, insolvency law,
including numerous cross-border cases, securities law matters, and corporate governance
issues. Kaplan has appeared before all levels of the court system in British Columbia, the
Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada, the BC Securities Commis-
sion and numerous other administrative tribunals and arbitration boards. Kaplan
has practiced in the full range of dispute resolution contexts from traditional trials
and related pre-trial procedures to arbitrations and mediations. Kaplan is currently an
Adjunct Professor of law at the University of British Columbia, teaching in the area of
negotiations. Kaplan received his LLB from the University of British Columbia in 1979,
he was admitted to the Bar in British Columbia in 1980, received an LLM degree from
Harvard University in 1981 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2001.

Practice focuses mainly on bankruptcy, insolvency and corporate commercial litigation.
Involved in many complex financial disputes and in most of the large restructurings in
Québec in recent years. Acted on behalf of important corporations in their recovery
under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act. Acted for a group of secured creditors
in the restructurings of AbitibiBowater and White Birch, and for the parent company
in the restructuring of Quebecor World. Represented large Québec-based companies
in their successful recovery under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act. Acted on
behalf of Le Groupe ADF Inc., a major steel structure manufacturer, in the restructuring
of its largest debts. Involved in several files regarding injunctions and seizures relating
to intellectual property and trade secrets. Frequently pleads before both trial and appeal
