Robert Anderson, QC, practices as general counsel, obtaining results for his clients
through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and court proceedings. His clients' issues
involve a wide variety of areas of law, including securities, corporate, commercial, class
actions, media, tax, administrative, environmental, constitutional, property assessment
and expropriation. He has represented various levels of government and other public
bodies. Anderson has appeared in all levels of the courts of British Columbia, the Federal
Trial Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Tax Court of Canada and the Supreme
Court of Canada. He has also both appeared before and conducted judicial review
proceedings of decisions from a wide spectrum of statutory decision-makers.
Extensive litigation practice in commercial litigation (trial and appeal divisions, includ-
ing the Supreme Court of Canada, Federal Court and CRTC) with a particular emphasis
on media law, communications law, defamation, intellectual property, IT and telecom-
munications and pharmaceutical patent litigation and regulatory affairs. Acts for large
media and pharmaceutical enterprises in Canada. President of the Board of the Canadian
Media Lawyers Association. Co-authored the Leblanc-Dunbar report Review of the
Regulatory Framework for Broadcasting Services in Canada, mandated by the CRTC.
Appears before the SCC in cases related to protection of sources and class actions in
defamation. Co-chair of Fasken Martineau's France Group. Named one of Lexpert®'s
"Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40" in Canada (2007) and a Canadian Litiga-
tion Lawyer to Watch (2008). Recognized as an expert in Corporate and Commercial
Litigation and Media and Defamation Law by e Best Lawyers in Canada (2009‒2015).
