John J.L. Hunter has a general commercial litigation and arbitration practice with
Hunter Litigation Chambers in Vancouver, BC. He appears regularly in the trial and
appellate courts of British Columbia in a wide range of commercial and public law
matters and has represented clients as diverse as Imperial Tobacco, Weyerhaeuser and the
Attorney General of British Columbia in the Supreme Court of Canada. In 2013 he was
appointed amicus curiae by the Supreme Court of Canada in the Senate Reform Refer-
ence. Hunter is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International
Society of Barristers. In addition to his practice as counsel, he is frequently called upon
to act as arbitrator in commercial disputes. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of
Arbitrators and a member of the Western Canada Commercial Arbitration Society. He
was President of the Law Society of British Columbia in 2008 and of the Federation of
