She has particular experience and expertise in this specialized field, where she acts for both plaintiffs and defendants. Waddell has appeared as counsel in a number of precedent-establishing and well-known class actions. Waddell is regularly requested to appear as a lecturer at both substantive and practical skills continuing legal education programs. Waddell is a Trustee of the Toronto Lawyers' Association, an Executive Member of the Ontario Bar Association Class Action Sub- group, a member of the Law Commission of Ontario's Advisory Committee on Class Action Reform, and is a former Director of The Advocates' Society, where she was Chair of its Subcommittee on Advocacy and Practice. One of Canada's pre-eminent litigators, Mary Thomson serves as head of Gowlings' firm-wide Advocacy Group and leader of its Product Liability Group. Over the past three decades, she has represented clients in some of Canada's most high-profile legal matters, including class actions, mass tort litigation and public inquiries. She has appeared in courts across Canada on matters involving product liability, particularly in the pharma and medical devices, as well as in the areas of health law, consent law, privacy law and more. Thomson has been repeatedly singled out as a top legal practitioner by leading legal directories.
