Extensive litigation practice in commercial litigation (trial and appeal divisions, includ-
ing the Supreme Court of Canada, Federal Court and CRTC) with a particular emphasis
on media law, communications law, defamation, intellectual property, IT and telecom-
munications. Acts for large media enterprises in Canada. President of the Board of the
Canadian Media Lawyers Association. Also regularly acts for large pharmaceutical compa-
nies in patent litigation and regulatory aff airs. Co-authored the Leblanc-Dunbar re-
port Review of the Regulatory Framework for Broadcasting Services in Canada, mandated by

Mark Bantey practices media law, civil and commercial litigation, and administrative
and constitutional law. Specializing in media law, acting for both national and local press,
Bantey has extensive experience in pre-publication review, libel law, access to information
law, freedom of the press issues such as publication bans and protection of journalistic
sources, constitutional law and human rights. As a litigator in media law and commercial
law, he acts before courts of all jurisdictions, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
Bantey has lectured in media law at Concordia University at the bachelor and master's
levels. Frequently called upon to give seminars on both the theoretical aspects of media law
and practical diffi culties facing journalists, he participates regularly in media law seminars.
He has been recognized as a leading practitioner in defamation and media law by e Best
Lawyers in Canada since its inception in 2006 and consistently in e Canadian Legal
Lexpert® Directory.
Michael Barrack is recognized as one of Canada's top litigators. He has led dozens of
cases, ranging from criminal jury trials to civil and constitutional appeals before the Su-
preme Court of Canada. His work in Canadian courts and internationally caused one re-
viewer to write, "He's as good as it gets, fi rst-rate counsel, among the top fi ve in Canada."
He has been described as an assertive litigator who is very strategic and creative, with eff ec-

have retained Michael include former Justice Jack Ground as Litigation Trustee of Hol-
linger Inc., U. S. Steel, the Toronto Stock Exchange, TransCanada, Canadian Pacifi c Rail-
way, the Ontario Securities Commission, OMERS, major banks and multinational law
fi rms. He is a Past President of e Advocates' Society, a founding director of Pro Bono
Law Ontario and currently Vice Chair of the Heart and Stroke Foundation – Ontario.
