The hoods now have NIOSH approval for protection against 12 gases. The hood is exceptionally intuitive and easy to use, the manufacturer says. The escape hood was devel- oped with feedback from users and always with the goal of offering the fastest escape possible. The hood has optimized operation and wearing comfort and a strong housing. These fea- tures together with the multigas/R95 fi lter guarantee that the wearer is protected from toxic industrial substances for at least 15 minutes. The hood has a viewing window to check fi lter expiration date and the condition of the device. Ergonom- ics and comfort were considered when designing the hood. It can be carried with a belt, shoulder strap, grip clip or belt clip. www.draeger.com 'WAVE TECHNOLOGY' RESPIRATOR Moldex has introduced AirWave, what the company calls the next wave in respiratory protection. It is the next step past disposable respirators. Its patented wave technology allows the wearer to breathe easier and does not make the user uncomfortably hot. It has an exclusive easy-breathing wave design with less resistance and better breathability. This means a worker could wear the mask all day to provide the level of protection needed. It is a comfortable, durable respirator that increases the rate of worker compliance and decreases costs, says Moldex. Its larger surface area means more airfl ow and the fl ex-fi t design moves easily with the user's face and stays in place. It has a pinch-free moulded nose bridge, soft foam nose cushion and a Softspun lining for increased comfort. Its Dura-Mesh shell resists collapsing in both heat and humidity and the mask meets heat and fl ame resistance in accordance with ANSI/ISEA 110-2003 Section 7.11.1. www.moldex.com ADVERTISERS' DIRECTORY TOOLS OF THE TRADE Compiled by Mallory Hendry OHS PRODUCTS 360-DEGREE LED AREA LIGHT Lind Equipment has introduced the newest addition to its Beacon Light line of portable LED fl oodlights — the Beacon360. It can be carried, hung and mounted in a variety of ways — light head only, aluminum fl oor stand, a tripod that can be extended between four and eight feet, magnetic mount or scaffold clamp. Each Beacon360 comes with a ceiling mount to hang it upside down as a high-bay type light. A 120W LED area light, the Beacon360's full circle beam can illuminate an entire room or outdoor work area — more than 50 feet in each direction — at once. The light is also weatherproof, generates very little heat, never requires a new bulb and uses 70 per cent less energy than traditional lights, says the manu- facturer. The Beacon360 is made from durable cast aluminum and uses polycarbonate lenses. It has no moving parts and a robust housing. The LEDs last for 50,000 hours with instant start/restart, which helps remove costly downtime associated with metal halide lights. www.beacon360light.com DROPS ZONE CAUTION TAPE The Squids 3601 Caution Tape – Drops Zone is the newest member of the objects at heights collection by Ergodyne. The tape can be used to prevent workers or bystanders from enter- ing potentially dangerous dropped object areas. The 300 foot long by 7.6 cm wide roll can be used to create barriers. The tape can also be used as part of a foreign material exclusion or foreign object debris/damage program as it will warn workers of these zones or create a barricade to prevent workers from bringing foreign materials and objects into work areas. The "Caution Drops Zone" message repeats along the whole 300 feet and the 0.1 mm thickness makes the tape stronger and more durable than standard off the shelf tapes. The large black lettering on the bright orange background makes the tape highly visible for marking areas that are a safety risk. The tape can be easily put up and torn down for quick job site marking. www.ergodyne.com HEAD & FACE PROTECTION DOUBLE-PLY HOOD The Cobra Ultimate is an extra long, double-ply hood. Its length covers the chest, shoulders and shoulder blades. It has fl at stitched seams and a half-inch wide elasticized face open- ing. It is UL classifi ed to NFPA 1971. It is made with Para-Tek FR, a tri-blend fabric that combines the benefi ts of three fi bres: high strength para-aramid, lenzing FR and high tenacity nylon. It comes in black to hide dirt. The hood is lightweight and breathable, with exceptional fl ame and heat resistance. It has the highest arc rating — 32 (level 3) — of any hood on the market, says the manufacturer. It is inherently fl ame resistant, has low thermal shrinkage and an excellent thermal protective performance (TPP) rating — 34.8 after fi ve washes. It resists wear from welding sparks and splatter. It is compliant with NFPA 70E and meets performance specifi cations of ASTM-F-1506. The hood is also comfortable — it has excellent moisture absorbency and wicks moisture off skin. www.cobrahoods.com FROM HARD HAT TO WELDING HELMET 3M presents its latest top-of-the-line auto-darkening weld- ing helmet, the 3M Speedglas Welding Helmet 9100 QR. The helmet, which completes the 3M 9100 series product line, means welders no longer have to wear a welding helmet when it's not needed. Since most welders require continuous head protection but a rising number only weld part time, the helmet easily converts many of the industry's hard hats into welding helmets, says the manufacturer. The welding helmet can be easily attached to hard hats using a releasable ratcheting mechanism. One gloved hand works to attach or detach the welding helmet as fast as you can put on a baseball cap, the manufacturer says. The welder can also pivot the helmet to a raised parker position. It is compatible with 3M Speedglas Welding Filter Series 9100 which offers outstanding optical performance, variable dark shades 5, 8, 9-13 and arc detection for low amp TIG. www.solutions.3mcanada.ca work area — more than 50 feet in each direction — at once.
