They offer a fi rmer fi t to allow workers to "feel" the earplugs in their ears, and the design maintains the familiar cylin- drical or barrel shape. They offer effective 30 NRR dB hearing protection, are easy to roll down and insert and exert less pressure on the ear canal than traditional models. With rounded edges for safety and a thicker blade for ease of handling, the pen cutters reduce injuries when compared to traditional metal blades, says the manufacturer. A single ceramic blade is equivalent to 20 single- edge metal blades and long outlasts both high carbon steel and stainless steel. Made from Zirconium Oxide ZrO2, only diamonds are harder, the manufacturer says. The two-ply construction reduces the risk of injury and provides out- standing cut resistance — ANSI Level 3. The test results for cut protection performance are 2.59 lb /1,175 g. While cut resistant, the sleeve is not puncture resistant and care should be taken to avoid high-speed, serrated blades or intentional slashing.
