WITHIN THE CANADIAN Infrastructure economy, P3s are fl ourishing. According
to the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships (CCPPP), "Canada now has 20
years of experience with P3s and 207 projects are currently in procurement, under con-
struction or in operation across the country." In a national Nanos Research survey com-
missioned by the CCPPP, "62% of respondents [indicated they] are open to using P3s.
"A majority of Canadians also indicated that they support the use of P3s across key
sectors of the economy, with transit systems (70%), roads
(65%), social housing (64%) and hospitals (63%) receiving
the strongest endorsements."
is is having enormous impact on the Canadian econo-
my. In March of this year, the CCPPP released the results of
its "10-Year Economic Impact Assessment of Public-Private
Partnerships in Canada (2003–2012)." e study concludes
that Public-Private partnerships (P3s) are major contributors
to Canada's economy, generating $51.2 billion in direct economic output and 290,680
direct full-time equivalent jobs between 2003 and 2012.
As the Canadian economy improves, even since 2012, the ten years ahead are likely
to see even more intensifi ed Infrastructure, including P3, success. Eff ective legal models
for these Infrastructure projects can and should be a driver in this success. e Lexpert-
ranked lawyers profi led in this publication have led the legal vanguard in Infrastructure
evolution thus far, providing a range of tested options in Canada and abroad. You want
them on your next project.
