authorities. Has acted as counsel in numerous tax cases at all levels of courts both
provincially and federally, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and has also settled
many cases out of court at the pre-assessment or objection stage. A professor of tax
dispute resolution at the UBC Faculty of Law. Also practices corporate and individual
business tax, focusing on off shore tax planning, corporate reorganizations and other
business-related tax matters. Practice also includes advice on GST and provincial
commodity taxes. Has acted for numerous private and public companies on complex,
tax-effi cient restructurings. Has obtained numerous advance rulings from Revenue
Canada and provincial tax authorities. Writes and lectures extensively about various tax

Ed Kro is a partner who practices in the areas of tax controversy and litigation law
at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. Practice is exclusively dedicated to handling federal
and provincial tax disputes, including those related to transfer pricing. Appears before
all levels of court, including Supreme Court of Canada. Extensively published on
taxation issues. Sits on the Editorial Board of Tax Litigation and Canadian Tax Journal
and formerly for many years on the Rules Committee of the Tax Court of Canada.
Recipient of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants Award for Excellence in
Income Tax Practice and Education for his outstanding contribution to the profession
and the Canadian tax community. In 2012, Kro was the recipient of the Queen
Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for signifi cant contributions to the Canadian Tax
Foundation. Honorary CGA designation, CGA Association of BC. Admitted to the
British Columbia, Ontario and Alberta Bars.

Co-chair of the fi rm's tax and estates department and leader of the Corporate Tax
Planning Practice Group. Practice focuses on the income tax aspects of corporate
reorganizations, mergers & acquisitions, take-overs, debt fi nancing transactions,
transactions involving income funds, partnerships and other fl ow-through vehicles,
asset-based fi nancings, and cross-border fi nancing and leasing transactions. Practice
also includes personal tax planning and residency matters, foreign tax planning for
Canadian residents and structuring investments for non-residents into Canada. He is
the past chair of the National Taxation Section of the Canadian Bar Association and
past Co-chair of the CBA-CICA Joint Committee on Taxation. He served on the
Canadian Tax Foundation's Board of Governors and is a past director and president
of the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society. Has presented a number of papers on a variety
of tax-related topics at national, international and local tax conferences. Called to the
Alberta Bar in 1988.
