John Rook is a litigation partner at Bennett Jones LLP specializing in commercial,
administrative, class actions and competition law litigation. Rook appears in courts
throughout Canada in commercial and administrative law claims, including most
recently in Nova Scotia and Manitoba. He is recognized by Chambers Global as "among
the most sought-a er competition litigators in Canada." He acts for the Commissioner
of Competition in mergers and reviewable practices, as well as numerous clients in the
private sector in both civil and criminal proceedings under the Competition Act. He
writes extensively in his areas of expertise and is a frequent speaker. In the community,
Rook is chair of the St. Andrew's College Foundation, and a member of the boards of St.
Andrew's College and St. George's Golf Club.

Barry Zalmanowitz is a partner of Dentons Canada LLP's Edmonton offi ce and
co-Chair of the fi rm's National Competition Law Group. He advises and represents
clients in all aspects of the Competition Act, including mergers and notifi able
transactions, conspiracy and other criminal provisions, private damage actions,
reviewable practices and misleading advertising. He also represents clients in compliance
with the Investment Canada Act and establishes competition and antitrust compliance
programs and policies. Barry has been competition law counsel in many signifi cant
transactions providing pre-transaction advice, compliance with pre-notifi cation fi lings
and obtaining clearances from the commissioner of competition. He is experienced in
representing clients in contested merger proceedings and defense of clients in criminal
cartel prosecutions and deceptive marketing proceedings.
