Counsel and member of BLG's Commercial Litigation Group. In 1988, occupied the
Milvain Chair in Advocacy at the University of Calgary Law School and in 2010 was
the first Silas Hylak Chair in Advocacy at the University of Saskatchewan College of
Law. A past president of the County of Carleton Law Association and sat as a bencher
of the LSUC for eight years. In 1984, was elected a fellow of the ACTL and was its first
Canadian president in 2003–04. Recipient of The Advocates' Society Medal, honorary
degrees from the LSUC and the University of Ottawa, and the OBA Award for Excellence in Civil Litigation. Recipient of the Lifetime Achievement in Pro Bono Award at
the 2010 Lexpert® Zenith Awards. Named as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2011.
Appointed QC in 1976. Called to the Ontario Bar in 1962.
Partner and Montréal regional leader of BLG's Aviation Group, Directors' and Officers'
Liability Group and Product Liability Group; Chair of Class Action Group. Practice is
focused primarily on class-action litigation, multijurisdictional litigation, insurance law
and professional liability, product liability, and civil liability in aviation matters. Has
handled class actions for more than 20 years, representing clients such as manufacturers, retail chains and financial institutions. Selected by peers for inclusion in The Best
Lawyers in Canada 2013 in the fields of in aviation law, bet-the-company and classaction litigation, personal injury litigation and product liability law. Also recognized
by Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business, The Lexpert® Guide to

Brian Kapusianyk practices in the areas of insurance and commercial litigation with
an emphasis in professional liability, construction law, commercial insurance coverage
and defense, as well as personal injury and products liability litigation. He has acted on
matters in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and the Yukon
Territory. He has appeared in the courts at all levels, including the Federal Court, Trial
Division, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Kapusianyk
has been retained to act for architects, engineers, land surveyors, lawyers, accountants
and many other professionals. Has been recognized in various publications, including
Lexpert® magazine, The Best Lawyers in Canada, The Lexpert®/American Lawyer Guide
to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, and the International Who's Who of Insurance
& Reinsurance Lawyers. Kapusianyk has spoken at many seminars and conferences
throughout North America.
