Ryann has extensive commercial litigation experience, including shareholder oppression claims, contract disputes, breach of trust claims, construction and procurement disputes, class actions, urgent injunctions, and cross-border litigation. In her public law practice, Ryann acted for the Prime Minister of Canada in the historic Public Order Emergency Commission of Inquiry related to the convoy events of February 2022, and for the Government of Canada in the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democratic Institutions. Stephen practises in the areas of commercial litigation, administrative/regulatory law, securities litigation, competition law, professional liability, and white collar crime. Stephen acted for the Government of Canada in the Public Order Emergency Commission, where he examined the Deputy Prime Minister and the Deputy Minister of Finance. He argued leading appellate cases on constitutional rights, remedies for improper access to privileged material, remedies for failure to disclose multi-party settlements, and damages in professional liability cases. Stephen has appeared before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada. He regularly publishes and speaks on legal topics, and his writing has been cited by the Supreme Court. Prior to joining Stockwoods in 2014, Stephen served as a law clerk to Justice Thomas Cromwell at the Supreme Court of Canada.
