Joel Nitikman is a partner in the Tax Group at Dentons. Joel has extensive experience in federal and provin-
cial income/commodity tax litigation, and has acted as counsel in numerous tax cases at all levels of court,
both provincially and federally. He has also settled many cases out of court at the pre-assessment or objection
stage. Joel's skills include organizing a complex set of data, analyzing and structuring the data to determine
the relevant tax issues, preparing witnesses for court, draing legal pleadings and substantive arguments, ex-
cellent oral advocacy skills, excellent legal research, the ability to persuade and reason in a complex environ-
ment and the ability to assimilate a large number of facts quickly. Joel has been involved in extensive provin-
cial, federal and international income and commodity tax planning, including cross-border tax planning for
the entertainment industry, off-shore trusts, Canada-US corporate reorganizations, Canadian investment
in the US, US investment in Canada and cross-border estate planning.

Byron's practice is focused on inbound and outbound cross-border taxation matters and related structur-
ing of public and private mergers, acquisitions, financings and reorganizations. Byron earned his Chartered
Professional Accountant designation in Alberta in 2002 and completed his Juris Doctor degree from the
University of Toronto in 2007. Byron is a frequent writer and speaker on taxation matters, including for the
Canadian Tax Foundation, the Canadian Tax Journal and Tax Notes International, and is a sessional in-
structor for the international tax law course at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Law and the Chartered
Professional Accountant Canada's international in-depth tax course. Byron is the treasurer for the Alberta

of the CBA Taxation Section for Northern Alberta. Former member of the ICAA — Revenue Canada

Mike Dolson practices in all areas of Canadian tax law, and focuses on inbound and outbound cross-border
issues affecting private corporations. Mike received his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University
of Western Ontario in 2009, and his Masters of Law (LLM) in US Taxation from New York University in
2014. He joined Felesky Flynn LLP as an articling student in 2009, was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2010,
and became a partner of the firm in 2016. Mike is a sessional lecturer at the University of Alberta Faculty of
Law, where he teaches corporate tax. He frequently writes and presents on cross-border and other Canadian
tax issues for professional organizations including the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Canadian Bar Associa-
tion, the Legal Education Society of Alberta, and for non-professional publications including the Globe and
