of Justice prior to judicial proceedings,
she provides advice on Canada Revenue
Agency corporate audits.
SASKATCHEWAN REGINA
In Regina, Lesley Kim joined Miller
omson LLP as a partner. Kim practises
in the areas of domestic and international
tax law. She has particular experience with
corporate and individual income taxation,
including cross-border transactions, cor-
porate reorganizations, public and private
company financings, estate planning and
dispute resolution with the various taxing
authorities in Canada.
MANITOBA WINNIPEG
In Winnipeg, ompson Dorfman Sweat-
man LLP welcomed Bryan Klein to the
firm as counsel. He focuses on taxation and
corporate and commercial law.

welcomed back Alan MacInnes as counsel
to the firm's Winnipeg office. MacInnes
practised with TDS for 29 years prior to
his 1992 appointment as a Justice of the
Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench. He
was appointed to the Manitoba Court of
Appeal in 2007 where he served with dis-
tinction until his retirement in 2018.
Charles Guberman joined ompson
Dorfman Sweatman LLP as counsel in
Winnipeg. He focuses on family law and
alternative dispute resolution.
ONTARIO TORONTO
In Toronto, Fogler, Rubinoff LLP wel-
comed Eric Hoffstein as a partner. He
practises corporate and commercial liti-
gation and dispute resolution with a spe-
cial focus on trust, estates, and charity/
not-for-profit law, as well as real property
disputes. Hoffstein has appeared as coun-
sel at all levels of the Ontario courts and
at the Supreme Court of Canada and
regularly appears before the Toronto Es-
tates List.
Curtis Cusinato took on a new role as
co-managing partner of Stikeman Elliott
LLP in Toronto, alongside Anne Ristic.
He will continue practising corporate and
securities law, with a focus on cross-border
mergers and acquisitions and capital mar-
ket transactions.
Amit Ummat joined Baker & McKen-
zie LLP as a partner in Toronto. He has
over a decade of experience resolving cor-
porate tax and transfer pricing tax disputes.
Borden Ladner Gervais LLP welcomed
Liviu Cananau to its Environmental,
Municipal, Expropriation and Regula-
tory Group in Toronto. Cananau holds
significant experience in the areas of land
acquisition, expropriation, real estate and
municipal law, in both the private and pub-
lic sectors. He also advises on procurement
matters, including rolling stock acquisi-
tions, and has negotiated a wide variety of
project implementation agreements.
Joseph Hillier is now a senior policy
advisor to the Office of the Honourable
Caroline Mulroney, Attorney General
of Ontario and Minister Responsible for
Francophone Affairs. Previously, he was
Senior Counsel, Board Planning & Assist-
ant Secretary at Royal Bank of Canada.
Soizic Reynal de St Michel joined
TMG Builders, a GTA construction
manager specialized in the construction
of condominiums as its first in-house
legal counsel.
Andre Garber moved to Fasken Marti-
neau DuMoulin LLP's Toronto office
where he is now director of the firm's
Startup and Emerging Company Services
group. Together with partner Will Shaw,
Garber co-leads the group in Ontario, and
plays a national role as well. His experience
involves advising companies throughout
their lifecycle from formation to exit.
QUÉBEC MONTRÉAL
Warren Katz is now Managing Partner of
the Stikeman Elliott LLP's Montréal of-
fice. He is also the former head of the firm's
Corporate practice group in that location.

welcomed Michel Gélinas as a partner
practising corporate and securities law.
In Montréal, Louise Houle joined De
Grandpré Chait LLP as counsel in the
firm's taxation team. Houle is experienced
in taxation and estate planning.

Marc Barbeau was appointed
Chair of Stikeman Elliott LLP;
William (Bill) Braithwaite is
stepping down as Chair after
six years in the role. From 2005
until 2011, Barbeau headed the
Montréal Business Law Group
and from 2011 to 2015 was a
member of the firm's board. The
firm's upcoming priorities will
include talent management and
technology, he told American
Lawyer magazine late last
year. Barbeau will continue his
practice and role as a partner in
the firm's corporate department.
Catherine Martel joined the litigation
practice of Langlois lawyers, LLP as
a partner in its Montréal office. She
has advised and represented clients
for twenty years in matters involving
product liability, consumer law and
energy law, including class actions.
She also drafts appeal factums and
memorandums of argument in all
areas of the law. She has extensive
experience with Québec civil law
(including the law of obligations,
contract law and civil liability law),
corporate law, administrative law,
constitutional law and civil liberties,
as well as energy law.
