LEXPERT MAGAZINE | SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 2018 5 LEXPERT.CA Jean Cumming Editor-in-Chief EDITORIAL Ships Rising, not Shipwreck THIS ISSUE of Lexpert is future-focussed. We have articles on Private Equity sectors that are likely to be good bets (p.34); boutique firms that are finding niches (p.40); firms that are adapting to AI's promise (p.46); and inspiring in- house leadership (p.52). For all of the shipwreck-image laden articles about the profession's future, you are also telling each other positive stories. David Lat names "the creation of online communities" as a trend shaping the profession's future (https://bit.ly/2wC5Sot). Interestingly, he doesn't see this as such a radical departure for lawyers. "Community has always been critical for lawyers," writes Lat. "Community helps lawyers find clients, make cross-refer- rals, share insights, mentor each other, and thrive in their professional lives." Many of you have joined social media in expressive and impressive ways. For example, you can follow rudnerlaw.ca for Employment Law news; and @Hul- lanHullLLP for Estates guidance — both of these on several platforms. For a mix of Trial Tips along with notes on space travel and personal milestones, there is @jthomascurry on Twitter. I found out about Ritu Bhasin's powerful youtube video, "Let's Talk about Supremacy, Power and Privilege" on LinkedIn. For won- derful photos and travel tales, see _ohmygord and campion.john on Instagram. For Competition Law updates, go back to Twitter for @Tony _DiDomenico. While there, take a look at the #lawtwitter discussion on what women lawyers are expected or not to wear to work. One or more of these will surely inspire you to join an online community if you are not there already.
