It is licensed by Health Canada and contains PHMB, which kills germs on contact in second- degree burns, and EDTA, which has a binding (chelating) effect on all acids (HF, HCI) or alkali (metals and minerals), says A-Med. It thus provides a solution for all risks: air pollution or caustic materials. The bottle is slim for a single-hand grip, freeing the other hand to open the eye and rinse under the eyelid. And with its one-quarter twist and pour tab, the user doesn't waste time fi nd- ing the tear piece to remove a security band before unscrewing a cap and also has an effective fl ush in about three seconds without risk of re-circulating contaminated rinse from an eye cup. It is available in Dentec chemical-wound care and burn-care kits, fanny packs, hip holster for mobile personnel and bottle pod brackets. www.a-medsupply.com FIRST-AID APP The Canadian Red Cross has intro- duced a first-aid app to increase Canadians' skills and confi dence to intervene in health emergencies. Although more than two-thirds of Canadians say they can recognize the signs of a life-threaten- ing health emergency, like choking or heart attack, only one-half are confi dent in their skills to help, the Canadian Red Cross says. The app allows users to learn what to do in various medical emergencies, from severe bleeding to broken bones to heart attacks. They can sharpen their skills through interactive quizzes and videos, or access simple step-by-step advice to help them respond to an emergency. The free app is available for Android, iPhone and iPad. It can be found in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for Android by searching for "Canadian Red Cross." www.redcross.ca/apps FIRST-AID STATION The Cederroth First Aid Station with Salvequick Dispenser, available through Safecross First Aid, offers an emergency eyewash station de- signed to allow the user to help out as quickly as possible. The station has space for two bottles, which open automatically when they are twisted out of their brackets. The bottles are designed to allow the user to rinse their eye with a good fl ow of liquid for about 1.5 minutes. A transparent, hygienic door with rubber edges protects the bottles against dust and dirt, so the station can be installed even in the toughest environments. Additionally, Ceder- roth Eye Wash works to neutralize the eye's pH value — it has a neutralizing effect on alkali or acid splashes, giving a quicker result than a normal sodium chloride solution. The effect is gener- ally stronger on alkalis than acids. Shelf-life is as long as 4.5 years. The eyewash station has additional space for your choice of products; for example, blood stoppers, protective glasses or gloves. www.safecross.com GAS DETECTION MULTI-GAS MONITOR CEA Instruments has launched the improved Triple Plus + IR. The por- table unit now features a better and larger display, Windows software and extreme durability. It offers UL, CSA and other approvals for use in hazard- ous areas, is water- and dust-resistant to IP65 and fl oats if falls into water. With a durable case and internal con- struction, the unit resists shocks and vibrations and won't break when dropped. A backlit display provides simul- taneous viewing of gas readings and gives rapid warning of gas when haz- ardous levels are detected. Intelligent, user-changeable sensor modules — pre-calibrated for a wide range of gases to allow "plug-and-play" operation — provide easy customization for dif- ferent applications, CEA Instruments says. Sensors are available for oxygen, fl ammable gas and full range of toxic gases, including hazards commonly encountered in confi ned spaces. For testing confi ned spaces before entry, the unit can be specifi ed with an optional, built-in electric sampling pump or used with a separate manual aspirator. A data-logger stores infor- mation, and the software provides access to this data, plus versatile user confi gurations via computer. www.ceainstr.com WIRELESS GAS MONITOR RAE Systems has introduced a w i r e l e s s, portable, four- gas pumped and diffusion gas monitor designed to enhance worker safety in indus- trial environments and better protect fi rst responders. The QRAE 3 is a ver- satile, rugged, one- to four-sensor gas monitor that provides continuous exposure monitoring of oxygen (O2), combustibles and toxic gases, includ- ing hydrogen sulphide (H2S), carbon monoxide (CO), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and hydrogen cyanide (HCN). The QRAE 3 is certifi ed for use in hazardous environments and is designed for use across a broad array of industries where exposure to toxic gas is a constant safety threat. These industries include a wide range of industrial, oil and gas, environmental, fi rst responder and national defence applications. The unit's wireless communication capability enables access to real-time, remote instrument readings and alarm status from any location. Real-time hazard readings can be communi- cated to the ProRAE Guardian Safety System and the EchoView Host Closed-Loop Wireless System for wireless monitoring outside the hot zone, from a plant safety offi ce or from a remote, enterprise location. www.raesystems.com UNIVERSAL GAS DETECTOR Scott Safety has launched its Meridian universal gas detector. The fi xed gas detection solution is designed to support a full range of toxic and combustible sensors, including Scott's standard and Rock Solid electro- chemical, catalytic bead, infrared and a new metal oxide semiconductor sensor for H2S detec- tion. Meridian can also support up to three sensors per transmitter with each sensor offering its own 4-20 mA output to the DCS. Designed with ease of use in mind, Meridian signifi cantly reduces upfront investment and ongoing maintenance costs. Its hot, swap-able plug-and-play sensors make it easy and quick to install, as well as to replace sensors in hazardous loca- tions without the need to power down the instru- ment, says Scott Safety. The toxic and oxygen sensors are range-agnostic, allow- ing for a change in sensor range without recalibra- tion. Additionally, sensors can be bench-calibrated in a lab and then installed in the fi eld without the need for further recalibration. Its one set of universal accessories can serve all applications. Meridian has global regulatory approvals and SIL2 certifi cation from TUV-Rheinland. www.scottsafety.com ADVERTISERS' DIRECTORY Bradley Corp 21 www.keltech-inc.com Canadian Standards Association 13 www.shopcsa.ca Carswell 15 www.carswell.com Draeger Safety Canada Ltd 24 www.draeger.com/sensorsavings Emond Harnden LLP 8 www.ohscomply.com Encon Safety Products 20 www.enconsafety.com/therma ow Grace Industries Inc. 19 www.graceindustries.com Haws Corporation 4 www.hawsco.com Industrial Scienti c Corp 11 www.indsci.com Kee Safety Ltd 18 www.KeeGuard.ca M D & C Law Limited Partnership 10 www.mathewsdinsdale.com STC Footwear 9 www.stcfootwear.com TEAM-1 Academy Inc. 2 www.team1academy.com TEAM-1 Academy Inc. 14 www.team1academy.com TOOLS OF THE TRADE
